    LMS 7.7.1 leaky?

    Hi!

I just restarted LMS after about two weeks of nonstop running. And I saw something odd on app memory on my x86-64 Linux installation

    (insert fig. 1 about here)

It looks like LMS (or SQLite) slow uses all free memory and I was just in-time restarting it.

Is this known of 7.7.2 as well ? should I schedule a restart every couple of weeks or so?

    regards

I'm interested in this as well, as I'm planning to install 7.7.2 on my guruplug and don't want any issues with memory leaks. The guruplug has 512 MB of memory running debian. Is that enough memory to run an always-on, 24x7, squeezebox server?

Are you running any third party plugins? Some of them have a tendency to leak memory.

The developers and many of the people here who regularly update to the latest nightly beta version aren't likely to notice slow memory leaks, as they restart the server often.

I'm using the default plugins. I haven't added any plugins.

I'm running 7.8 now, fingers crossed that it won't be so leaky...

Unfortunately yes, this is a known problem. To only a few users
un/fortunately, but I'm one of them. I've seen this issue for over a year
    now (before onebrowser/7.6 release).

May I ask you about your listening habits? As I've experienced this across
two different platforms (in terms of CPU, Linux & perl), I doubt it's the
environment only, but caused by how we use the software.

    - local media vs. online resources
    - online radio (stream) vs. music service (track based)
    - use of dlna/photo/video features
    - if local, how do you play them: shuffle, repeat, random play

For the record: I experienced the issue with all 3rd party and many stock
    plugins disabled.

I've noticed this myself recently. A number of times I've found my server sluggish and unresponsive (mainly in terms of squeezeboxserver, but also the system itself). I would run top after logging in and have found the memory usage up around 75%. Nominally it will use ~10% (if I recall correctly). I'm currently running 7.5.5 (see my sig for details). I never noticed anything like this prior to this release.

I was planning on upgrading to the latest LMS, but from this thread it sounds like there isn't much hope in that fixing it.

I no longer us any 3rd party plugins. I had been using Triode's spotify app, but I no longer use Spotify. We do use Rhapsody. Our squeezeboxes see regular usage.

To fix it, I execute /etc/init.d/squeezeboxserver restart. Once I do that, memory usage is back to normal and the system operates as it should.

I have a secondary server that really just sits there these days with no players attached. I've noticed that it will creep up in memory usage too, so the issue appears to have nothing to do with playing anything or having players attached.

I've taken to restarting squeezeboxserver on a weekly basis to avoid the issue. My one system (the one I really don't use often) crashed and I had to rebuild the system by reinstalling the OS. I was running for months without squeezeboxserver being restarted. Looking back, I wonder if the memory leak somehow caused that.

Well, 7.8 is just a leaky... It's bringing down the whole server; once it chews through all the RAM and swap the kernel crashes. Has anyone entered this problem into Bugzilla?

This just bit me for the first time last weekend. A local track just stopped playing, and after restarting LMS all was well. Checking the system logs LMS had been running about 3-4 weeks before the lockup.

System is Debian Squeeze, still running LMS 7.7.1, and listening habits are:

    - local media vs. online resources:
    Both (time-wise it's probably 60% local and 40% online, or maybe 50/50)

    - online radio (stream) vs. music service (track based)
Both. Internet radio plus MOG and Rhapsody, with occasional Pandora

    - use of dlna/photo/video features
    None whatsoever

    - if local, how do you play them: shuffle, repeat, random play
Local is usually full albums, with no shuffle, repeat, or random play. Frequently use MusicIP mixes as well.
