Is there either a question or a statement contained in the original post? Maybe I didn't read carefully enough.

Some digital is small. I don't want to play 100 percent when I could adjust the input of a digital file.

Is your question in the context of doing AD conversion?

From elsewhere: mp3gain. Yes A/D conversion.

On another note: My CDs were ripped to aapl lossless (iTunes) by multiple machines at the same time (which is whey I used it.)

The gain values are so wild I've had to disable replay gain adjustment.
