    SqueezeSlave Napster/Rhapsody

    Hi all,

Since Napster has changed over to Rhapsody, all of my squeezeslave players have stopped working. I use o2 Jogglers around the house as remotes for multiple instances of squeezeslave running on the server. I also stream audio directly from one of the Jogglers in my workshop, this has also stopped working since the service migration. Before the change, everything worked perfectly.

The only player that is currently working with Napster/Rhapsody is my Squeezebox Duet/receiver in the lounge.

I get the message, "This player does not support Rhapsody/Napster. A Squeezebox2 or higher is required."

I have tried using the -e 2 through to 8 command line switch to change the player type, but this doesnt help. If set to mimic a hardware player, it says I need to update the firmware by pressing the brightness button on the IR remote, and doesnt allow you to use the player.

I have been looking at Spotify as a solution, but it looks like this doesnt work with Squeezeslave, and even if it did, I need to pay another £5/month over the Napster service.

Any help/advice would be greatly received.

    Thanks,

    Adam

Squeezeslave doesn't work with Rhapsody or Spotify.

Unlike Napster, Rhapsody requires player support for decrypting the audio stream.

    Hi Ralphy,

Is there a way to get SBS/LMS to do this and push the decrypted audio to Squeezeslave? In my opinion this is a huge step backwards for the Napster service. To make it worse, I can't even buy the Logitech receiver anymore because its been discontinued.

    Regards,

    Adam

Which part of "Rhapsody requires player support for decrypting the audio stream" was unclear?

Rhapsody doesn't allow it. Never did, and they were among the first services on the Squeezebox. They require decryption in the player.

    Certainly.

    A quick update.

I have been testing Deezer and confirm that it works very well with Squeezeslave. The search function is not as good as Napster, but it works. The best part however is the bit rate. 320kbps compared to Napster's 128kbps. I am using the premium account £4.99/month, but am about to change this to the premium+ £9.99/month to get unlimited access and off-line sync on my phone.
