    Is it all over now?

    The title says it all...

Or is there anybody working on further versions of LMS even inspite a f*cking ignorant company like Logitech did run down the slimdevices business?
These shitheads were certainly not aware of the fact that the squeezebox system was the only one working for even huge musical archives and there was even great support for high density audio formats like 24/96. There is no similar system on the marketplace with such a far sighted design! SONOS does not even come into the near of it. And the extremely overpriced LINN or dunnowhat "streamer" boxes are just packed air with much marketing babble.

    Oh man...

    --audiogene

N.B. I should add that the Logitech "touch" is selling now for around 270-450 EUR in European countries (on ebay, used). Even defective units are going over the counter for 100 EUR

Logitech still maintains it, there are usually a few commits every month:
    - 7.8: https://github.com/Logitech/slimserv...its/public/7.8
    - 7.7: https://github.com/Logitech/slimserv...its/public/7.7

As far as I know, nobody in the community is working on a community version of LMS so far, there have been some discussions but not much interest among developers so far. It might still happen, but no activity in this direction have started yet as far as I know.

Nobody have announced to the public that they are working on a LMS/mysqueezebox.com replacement so far, but this doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, things could be going on in private and just not be ready to be exposed to the public yet...

They all base the decisions on their typical customer and how much the products sells.
Based on this, Logitech stopped selling Squeezeboxes and Sonos don't implement 24/96 and Linn will continue to have a premium price, this is what makes most sense for each one of them from and economical perspective.

The fact that Logitech stopped selling Squeezeboxes can actually be a good thing in a few years, because it opens up this market segment to other more creative companies which understand our needs better than Logitech ever did, it will just take some time for them to develop new products or adapt their existing products to fit our needs. I think the next year is going to be pretty exciting even if it might not feel that way at the moment.

Well, there haven't been any updates since november in the older LMS branches. Even the latest UE branche 10.0 didn't get an update since december. Doesn't look like there's much happening...

They correct critical bugs, we will of course not see any new features, but it's still maintained as long as critical bugs are corrected IMHO.

I asked a similar question in the other thread.

7.7 is updated, but 7.8 not.

Is there a need for 7.8 now? is there anything in it that isn't in 7.7?

I'd also worry about downgrading: unless someone has confirmed that it's safe, I would assume that it's unsafe: there could be DB scheme changes etc.

Upgrades would normally be handled correctly, but perhaps downgrades are not? I don't know, so would assume the worst, for safety.
