So if I want Rhapsody I need a hardware player which means a Touch or a Radio since they seem to be the only devices for sale on the Logitech site.
Now once I get one a player do I still establish a connection with my VB (VortexBox) appliance hosting SS and control Rhapsody via CLI through that or do I establish a connection to the player itself?
I understand the need to sell hardware and generate revenue but why do we need a player unless that's the sole reason. I'd be happy just buying a license for a virtual player with this capability and using VB/SS if money is the only reason just so I don't have to hang a player in the back of a rack when I already have a VB in place.
For integrators it would be nice to have a small simple player with just audio outs or the licensed virtual cuz why buy a touch or radio to stick in a the back of a rack just to get Rhapsody (and others apps). I also don't see the logic to the touch if that's to be connected to your audio system. It should be completely portable and something else should be connected to your system. Of course I could be missing something.
So anyway to get Rhapsody do I CLI into the player once I get one or my VB hosting SS?

Because it's them who are demanding an end-to-end encryption that may not be made public which is obviously something you can't do with an open-source software player.
Rhapsody will then tell you it's not their fault but that it's the record companies asking this from them which is at least half ways true. The record companies ask for a protection model which is then provided by the service and approved for the contract; once it's through you probably don't want to change it.
A simple hardware would of course qualify for this but has other challenges. The receiver was a configuration and maintenance nightmare due to it's remote configuration, I fully understand that Logitech wants something with a user interface built into it.---

AirPlay maybe?
If you had a reciever that supports AirPlay or device connected to your receiver that supports airplay, you could use your iOS device (iPad, iPod, iPhone) to stream to it using the Rhapsody app.
That's the only portable device I can think of that would support your use case.
This is assuming that AirPlay works with apps on the iOS device other than the built in music player.Rich

Well that's a better answer although I don't think I completely buy the logic. Just cuz SS is open source doesn't mean it can't interface with plugins that aren't and only provided in their compiled form. If it's about money and I agree they have a right to profit then allow us to buy a compiled plugin license to work with SS.

The point is: Rhapsody explicitly disallows it. Period.
Ask them if you don't believe it, which was my initial comment.---
