Gapless MP3 reading on SB Touch

Hello,

I read in this forum that it was now possible to have gapless reading with MP3 files extracted from a CD. I tried it with Offenbach's opérette "Orphée aux enfers" ripped with CDEX.

The results were variables. I do obtain gapless readings with Itunes, Ipod Touch and my SB3. But audible gaps were presents with SB Touch, Squeeze Play on PC output, WMP and a Sony MP3 Walkman.

As I use mainly my SB Touch to listen music, I would want to know if someone has been able to obtain gapless MP3 reading with this device.

I know that it is possible to rip an opera by act rather than by track to avoid the gaps (that's what I do now), but it is not very convenient.

Which mp3 encoder ? It is possible if you use lame it's the mp3 encoder I know of that can encode gapless mp3 .

What is the Touch connected to ? Are you using analog or digital out is it the same at the headphone out

yes, all my mp3 files play gapless on SB players (and on ipods). My mp3 files were ripped with LAME. Make sure you don't have crossfade turned on in SB settings. Also, why are you ripping to mp3 for home use. Why not lossless (FLAC). I recommend dbpoweramp for this. But EAC is another popular option....

-Cdex works with Lame version 1.32
-The SB Touch is connected to a Moon integrated amplifier with analogue cables (no digital inputs on this amplifier)
-I don't use the Touch headphone out.

lame version 1.32???? Lame should be something like 3.8x or higher for many, many years. I think 3.98 or 3.99 is current version.

It would be, which is another reason it is best to encode to a lossless format when ripping. That way you can just transcode from the FLAC/AppleLossless/AIFF or even WAV files instead of dragging out the CDs again.

I believe that gapless encoding was not introduced in LAME until version 3.9x. You should probably count yourself lucky that you're getting gapless playback on any device, and exactly how you're getting gapless playback on iTunes, and iPod is a mystery to me. And how you're getting gapless on your SB3 is even more curious!

Unfortunately, if you want to be guaranteed gapless playback, re-ripping is your only option at this point. Excellent ripping programs like dBpoweramp can take away a lot of the pain, but if your collection has a lot of classical you'll still probably be stuck with a lot of manual editing of tags.

Ok just rerip the music that is critical re gapless to FLAC .

My collection of music is not that extraordinarie big , but I've reripped everything :-/ but it was no more than 1300 physical CD's .
Than I have fudged with the Tags endlessly as everyone else :-/

I didn't give you the right information. CDEX setting for encoder is "Lame version 1.32 engine 3.98".

Anyway, I will follow the advise of some members and I will use FLAC to rip my operas.

aha. OK. And yes, FLAC for critical stuff will be much better. I feel your pain. I ripped over 200,000 tracks to mp3 192kbs years ago. I'm working my way back through my CDs, ripping to FLAC....
