Hi, help needed.
My current LMS is official 7.7.1 33747 running in OS X 10.7.3, it runs perfectly since I installed it last year end, but after click on update plugin on LMS bottom left corner, the following window appears in System Preferences.
"To use the “Logitech Media Server” preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen."
Two buttons, cancel or quit, when i click quit, double click on LMS at System Preference, give me the same dialog as above. Then I click cancel, mouser over the LMS, remove LMS system preference. After that, I go and wipe off user/xxx/library/application support/squeezebox (including plugin subfolders), reboot Mac, reinstall LMS 7.7.1 official version again.
But the same dialog appears, what's wrong, I have updated plugin several times, but never come across this problem.
Please help and your advise is very much appreciated.

The issue is that the preference pane is a 32-bit version, not 64-bit. When you click the "Ok" button, System Preferences automatically restarts in 32-bit mode so that you can use the preference pane. When you manually restart it, it's still starting in 64-bit mode, so it still needs to restart when you go to the preference pane.
It's been said that future versions of OS X will no longer support 32-bit preference panes, though I've seen nothing official on this. Hopefully Logitech will get this updated to 64-bit to prevent this annoyance, and allow it to continue work in the future.Squeezebox devices: Boom, Duet, and Radio

Thanks for the explanation.
After I quit and restart System Preference, the same message reappears. I think it could be 32-bit boot kernel in Mac OS X 10.7.3 not working, it does not restart from 64-bit to 32-bit. How to ensure or check the system preference is restart at 32-bit?Auronthas

Right... when you MANUALLY quit and restart System Preferences, it's still re-opening in 64-bit mode. When you click the button to have it AUTOMATICALLY restart, it will (or should) restart in 32-bit mode. I believe - but don't quote me on it - that it shows in the title bar that it's running in 32-bit mode when it is.
If you're clicking the button to have it automatically restart and it's STILL not letting you use the preference pane, then it sounds like System Preferences isn't restarting in 32-bit mode, and that may be due to a setting in the OS somewhere.Squeezebox devices: Boom, Duet, and Radio

This issue is up to Logitech to correct. I don't know if someone has already opened a bug in Bugzilla about this or not, but if not, then it probably should be done. I'll be more than happy to open a bug for it, if there is not already one existing.

Also... here's a possible workaround you can try...
Go to the Applications folder, click on System Preferences, then go to File > Get Info (or press CMD-I). In the "Get Info" window, there should be a checkbox labeled "Open in 32-bit mode".
I found this in reference to OS X 10.6, so it's possible that this option may not exist under 10.7. I'll be able to verify as soon as I get home, if you haven't already checked.Squeezebox devices: Boom, Duet, and Radio

Yes, follow your steps given, there is a checkbox (and it is checked at Open in 32-bit mode' in Mac OS 10.7.3 as well.
I will support you, virgiliomi to open a new bug report and do hope Logitech team will consider upgrade its software to 64-bit mode, it's just matter of time to make a switch.Auronthas
