Hi all
Very much a noob and not particularly technical. Not sure whether to post here or third party section?
Was going to set up an easy NAS to store all my music for streaming to SB, laptops/PC and PS3.
Wanted a nice cheap easy solution and had been recommended to go with Lacie Network Space 2 2B but on reading here seems this is not a good SB compatable device.
Then looked at Buffalo LinkStation Live 2 TB : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-Link...1198448&sr=8-4 but now reading through forums online even seems this is a nightmare to set up with SB server if not technically minded?
Now completely confuddled - any advice greatly appreciated - does an easy solution exist??
BIG THANKS for any responses!

Check out ReadyNAS, they support Logitech Media Server out of the box, as far as I know. But avoid the older models, they're a bit on the slow side.
Still, toby10 has a point; Even though in many cases a good NAS would be the best solution, a cheap PC with a familiar OS is probably (almost) always the easiest solution.

Thanks for responses - I want a set up for the house to share files and printing - as well so NAS seems to be the way to go!
I have now looked at this machine : Synology DiskStation DS212j
http://www.dabs.com/products/synolog...m_content=TB00
and from notes here :
http://www.synology.com/releaseNote_...er.php?lang=us
would this then support squeeze boxes with no extra effort...or is it still not so simple???

If you get a NAS then I would absolutely recommend a Synology.
However don't get the slowest model. The software required to run a squeezebox benefits from a little more cpu and memory power.
So I would recommend a 212+ this one would be quite powerful.
The other reason is that there are so many more things you can (and believe me you will) do with the NAS that you will later regret buying the cheaper / slower one.
Synology support is great and there is a big user base just like with the squeezebox. They are fantastic devices. Forget about setting up a laptop or any old pc, you will love the Synology just as you love your Squeezebox.
:-)
Just have a look at the sinology website, the new version of the software they have for the sinology got some nice improvements, and there is a package available for Logitech media server.Last edited by jp73; 2012-03-11 at 01:59.

Another vote for ReadyNAS here. Check out the ULTRA series. ReadyNAS provides Devices with professional features for the home market. Yes, they are a bit more expensive than a traditional NAS but are worth every cent. http://www.readynas.com/?cat=88
1 x SB3, 1 x SB Boom, 1 x SB Radio and 2 x SB Touch - all wireless

I am using a QNAP TS219P+ NAS and it has been very, very easy to get LMS up and running.
Far easier and more trouble free than installing LMS on my win7 laptop and a Vista PC. These required a lot of time exploring and investigating as to why LMS was unreliable. I did get both working reliably but the fix was not for those who have no interest in dabbling with windows security settings...... after an initial trouble free period LMS started to have issues with windows firewall and UAC security !!!
In the meantime my QNAP LMS install has run faultlessly.
The LMS server is very easily installed on the QNAP from the QNAP settings pages or by downloading the latest build for your chosen model of the QNAP posted on the user forum and then pointing to the download from QNAP interface. (Additional software is automatically managed via the simple to use settings area called QPKG)
The latest LMS install versions suitable for the QNAP are created by the members of the user forum and posted not long after a new LMS release.

when lms is running off the nas, do you control the Squeezebox from the Squeezebox itself, or is there an interface that you can use that is also attached to the network? Presently i am using lms on a laptop but have run out of disk space, and 'am thinking of a nas to store my flac files on
thanks
