How do you know when your Boom updates its firmware? The only way I've been able to tell is if I catch it in the act of updating.
edit: I asked how to find out the version the boom was running, but I found that info here: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/player/viewPlayers My boom is running version 57.

Today I happend to be looking at the Boom when the alarm was supposed to go off.
The alarm indicator was lit, and I watched the time changed form 7:44 to 7:45 to 7:46 with no hint that the boom even tried to sound its alarm.
This bug has gotten exteemely repeatable. I'd be happy to help debug this if there was even a hint of interest on the part of Logitech.

Sorry for not rereading the entire thread, but in terms of logitech's interest, have you either posted a bug report at
bugs.slimdevices.com
or contacted logitech support via phone or posted at the official logitech squeezebox forums. These slimdevices forums are only for users helping other users, so this thread in and of itself would not be a way of getting logitech's interest.
This does seem like a very odd situation. I've never had a boom alarm failure in several years of owning/using, but it sure seems as if something very odd is happening in your case....Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)
Office: Win7(64) > LMS 7.7.2 > SqueezePlay
Spares: VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER
Controllers: iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop

Have you tried changing the radio station that is played when the alarm sounds?
Not exactly your problem, but I had intermittent and random alarm problems with my boom: the alarm was apparently playing but no sound could be heard.
I worked around the issue by setting two wakeup alarms every day, the second starting 1 minute after the ending of the first (e.g. 7:00-7:09 and 7:10-7:20) and making use of a different radio station for the second alarm. Since then, I have had a few failures with the first alarm, but the second has always kicked in.

If it were some kind of network problem, or problem with the radio station, I would still expect the display to indicate that it was attempting to sound the alarm. As it is, when it fails, the time just keeps incrementing as if the alarm were not supposed to go off at that time.
