I use the automatic brightness control and have set the minimum brightness to the minimum setting. The automatic brightness control seems to work very well for most cases. Especially at night, the display is very dim which is how I like it.
The only thing that bothers me about the brightness control is that when playing music in the evening (there is light but the room is darker than during daytime) the brightness is way too low and the display is unreadable. I did a search on the forum but I couldn’t find any topics about this. Is there anyone who has the same “issue”?

I have filed an “enhancement bug” for this behavior. So anyone who would see this enhancement in future release please vote on bug 17908: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17908

Or you can use the patch I wrote for this exact problem. After the patch is applied, switch to the manual mode. When playing, the normal brightness setting is used. When stopped, or switched off, the minimum brightness setting is used.
To install, first enable 3rd party plugins. Then install the patch installer plugin. After which you can install my 'Reduce Brightness Patch'

I already had that patch installed but it wasn’t working. Now I know why: I had the Touch set to automatic brightness control instead of manual (which is required for your plugin to work).
Your plugin will solve my issue when playing music in the evening but it creates a new issue: the display brightness is now too low during the day. When the Touch is off, the display is dimmed and is now unreadable in normal daylight.
The ideal solution would be to use autoamatic brightness control but limit the minimun treshold to a certain level (configurable) when playing. Could you modify your patch to do that?1 x SB3, 1 x SB Boom, 1 x SB Radio and 2 x SB Touch - all wireless

I would like it to work as following:
Always use automatic brightness control as it is working by default on the SBT, except when playing. When playing, the automatic brightness control should never go below a predefined “now playing minimum”. This “now playing minimum” is a new minimum brightness setting just like the minimum brightness setting that is already there.1 x SB3, 1 x SB Boom, 1 x SB Radio and 2 x SB Touch - all wireless

Okay, now I understand what you want. This is certainly possible, but I have to look closely at the design. Two things that I want to focus on:
- The settings should easy to use, even for the casual user
- It's a patch, so I do not want to rewrite the existing file too much, only add stuff.
That being said, I'll try working on it. As soon as I have something, I'll publish it to the beta repository and send you a PM, so you can test it.My patch: Reduce brightness when screen saver is active for Touch (and maybe Radio)

I like the Automatic brightness control too. I think the brightness should be at full bright when the radio or touch is being navigated via remote/touch screen/buttons.
