CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) has a new music service at http://music.cbc.ca/. It has a huge selection of online "radio" channels covering many genres of music. Lots of opportunity for community growth and conversation. Well worth checking out. No subscription required.
Some parts still have an under-construction feel (just launched a couple of days ago), but those should be sorted in due course.
Files seem to be 128kbps, unfortunately, but for casual listening is at least FM quality.

Not getting access to CBC Music Streams
Hi There:
Noticed you mentioned the new CBC Streams - I agree - they are great. I was hoping to access them through my SB Touch. I did a Searh in Internet Radio and found the list of CBC Music Themes/genres. But when I click on any,I get a message that there are no files in the playlist.
Advice?

Yes, I'm trying to find a way to access the streams. It IS possible to access the Concerts On Demand streams through LMS, let me know if you want to know how to do that.
Haven't figured out the radio channels, though. Working on it. Shouldn't be any barrier, in principle. They are free and available to anyone, can't see how streaming through a facility like the squeezeboxen should be a problem.

Can't get new CBC Music service on Squeezebox
I'm in Toronto, and am having the same problem.
The new CBC music sites are "geo-fenced" so that they can't be listened to in the U.S., because the CBC doesn't have the international rights to stream commercial music.
But there's no reason we shouldn't be able to get these services on a Squeezebox radio that's in Canada, and using a Canadian ISP (Rogers.)
I spent about half an hour on the phone with Logitech support yesterday. Really nice guy, really helpful, but he couldn't figure it out. It's not my ISP, because I can get the streams on my home computer -- just not on the Squeezebox.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you been able to stream the COD service? I am thinking there will be something in that procedure that will inform the radio channels.

The Answer!

The links here work, at least from Canada. Only tried one, the Leonard Cohen channel (full time all the time Leonard Cohen songs). When I entered the URL my Boom turned itself on and started playing loud. Startled me, woke my wife, made the dog bark.
Of course, it was LMS turned on the Boom, but still. . .

I've converted the CBC Music blog post url information into an opml playlist that can be loaded with the OPML Playlist Browser in LMS.
If you don't see the OPML Playlist Browser & Editor listed in the extras section you'll need to enable the Generic OPML Browser plugin.Ralphy

Cool, thanks Ralph. Have to try that tonight.
I've used OPML lists before, for the CBCs Concerts On Demand (the CBC actually generated one such for a subset of the CODs), but as I recall was a different mechanism, a couple of years back in SBS versions.
I don't know where you are -- were you able to play these outside of Canada?

CBC Streams
Thanks RonM and Ralphy for the suggestions and advice. Just read them today as I have been out of Canada for a couple weeks. I will try those suggestions this evening. Makes no sense that I get a "This station is not available in your country" when I am trying to access CBC streams in Canada! Perhaps it's because the SBTouch is made elsewhere or the software/firmware is licensed out of the US??
