The Case of the Elusive Switch to MSB.com Menu Item:

I also find this item bounces around the Main menu like a rubber ball.

I like to have it at the Top of the menu - on both win7s and a linux debian server it randomly bounces back to middle of the list when switching, or it sticks at the top.

there's no pattern to which it will be - top or middle.

For some reason all of the BBC Local Radio stations have stopped working (Listen Live) when accessed via the BBC Radio app (v1.10).

The display says "Getting Stream info" and then "Connecting" with an radio antenna mast background but nothing happens after that. A restart doesn't fix it.

What's odd is that the national ones still work. Also that the Local Radio stations work fine when accessed via either the BBC iPlayer server plugin or via Internet Radio search.

Is there some type of log file that could shed any light on why this is?

If you're in WMA stream mode try changing to AAC/MP3 mode (bottom for first menu in BBC Radio Applet).

The WMA streams for the "lesser" stations mostly don't seem to work any more.

    That was it - thanks!

Why is there a specific setting for the different stream encodings, as opposed to a failover type feature?

Looks like the BBC started to use a new asx playlist format for wma local radio - this should be fixed in 1.11. Please update and check it works for you.

I tried 1.11 and can confirm that WMA works fine now for BBC local stations. I noted that 'More Info' only shows "Windows Media" and not the bit rate (unlike with AAC).

However it still does beg the question what are the reasons for having the option to select between AAC/MP3 and WMA streams?
I see that in the equivalent BBC iPlayer plugin, there is an order of preference e.g. AAC > MP3 > WMA, which seems to me might be more resilient to failure (or rather the whims of the BBC admin folks).

Only because iPlayer was rewritten more recently to do this. The applet is more restrictive and was written to enable wma mode as default for radio as it has less resources (AAC originally caused radio to crash in some cases...)

I seem to find WMA streams worse than before with 1.11.

Is there any way to go back to previous versions?

    Worse in what way exactly?

I noted some intermittent glitching on Local stations but apparently this is a known issue - it occurs with the BBC's iplayer too:
    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.u...al_radio_audio

The chap at radiofeeds.co.uk thinks it should be fixed by April - apparently the Beeb are waiting for a part ...
