System has been stable and reliable for ages. However, I just changed my PC/server and re-installed the configuration below from scratch (this is the US system - Linksys router, trusty old SB3). Mostly easy and trouble free.
But, on a lot (but not all...) playing, I'm getting clicking and popping - I've established this is not coming from the amplifier, or from the speaker connections). Especially noticeable on BBC Radio 3 live streams; but it's happening on other radio streams too, and also on music (all FLAC) from my HDD collection.
I dare say it's a setting issue, buried in Squeezeserver, that I've forgotten about.
Ideas?

OK - done that. What exactly does it do incidentally?
Now playing "normally", but as the popping is intermittent I'll monitor it for a while.
Could this be something to do with on-the-fly encoding, or am I mis-recalling a past issue?

Seems to have worked so far. But I'll give it 24hrs.

Hmmm - definitely less popping and clicking, but it's still there. Seems to be worse at higher volumes, and definitely worse on BBC radio streams than on FLAC / mp3 stuff.
[BTW, I pushed the live BBC R3 stream direct from the BBC website via my PC into the amp and speakers, with no popping at all. But play the same live stream via Squeezeserver and SB, the popping is there]
Any further ideas out there?

to rule out any analog devices after the squeezebox connect and listen through a headphone to the device. It doesn't help you but I've become a fervent listener to BBC4 extra and have not ever got a sound deterioation other than silence. Also check in settings that volume adjustments are switched off. you find these onder settings, player, audio. Also switch off bitrate limiting (no need for that), and LAME quality level to the max.

I'll try all that. But it does immediately occur to me that I forgot to re-install the LAME encoder when I did my upgrade.... Can somebody remind me where I should put lame_enc.dll. And my LAME dates from 2008 - should I upgrade it anyway?

OK - just remembered how to do the LAME thing and I've put the latest version of both .exe and .dll (64-bit for me) in the appropriate spot. I'll re-boot the system, and give it another 24hr test.
BTW, I tried headphones direct into the SB and - at least on the Radio3 live stream - still have some popping. Let's see if the other adjustments solve that.

Not managed totally to solve this, so more thoughts are welcome (note slight reconfig of system as given below).
Today I'm in New York listening via BBC Radio3 to the Met Opera broadcast of Walkure.
Using my saved Favorite R3 stream via Media Server, I'm getting endless clicking and popping, which varies in volume in tandem with variation of volume in the stream itself. I'm using: http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx .
However, if I instead connect the Touch to MySB.com (to the server itself, not just the Favorites saved on MySB option in the Media Server), then the same opera plays with *no* clicks and pops, at all. In MySB.com, the stream is: http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3_aaclca.pls .
Any ideas for Settings adjustment in Media Server, or elsewhere?AGB
