If only all audiophiles were like this man, Peter Aczel

this man spoke the truth. It baffles me that hifi industry is driven by spurious, alternate dimension bullshit!

Just because you've not experienced another dimension doesn't mean its not there.

On the other hand, just because you think you've ridden a unicorn doesn't mean you have.

Funny enough, the unicorn tells us something . Some folklorist researchers have theory that it really is the rhino but they story has been passed on trough so many people/years that it became something else, people in the 1100's did not travel much and books vhere not always acurate.

Similar story about the " comodo dragon ". which is just a large lizzard

Yup, enjoyed The Audio Critic's work over the years.

Problem is the audio hardware industry isn't interested in supporting this kind of journalism. Nor does it seem most audiophiles are of the same mindset these days (is it because there's so little of this kind of journalism in the print rags but instead we get the nutso 4-part computer audio series in the recent TAS?).

I agree with Peter Aczel's philosophy and I love his style! That doesn't mean I agree with every word he writes though.

For example, he has given the Linkwitz Orion and Beolab 5 glowing reviews. I agree about the Orions but I found the Beolab 5 to be patchy.

I'd rather read his refreshingly common sense articles than the gibberish most audio journalists write.

    I do like this

"The old regulars know exactly my position regarding the stupidity of ascribing a “character” to the sound of an utterly neutral signal path. Oohing and aahing over the vast improvement in soundstaging, front-to-back depth, bass delineation, or treble sweetness obtainable with this or that electronic component may sell high-end magazines but is totally unscientific and delusional."

I just received the latest issue of the Absolute sound which contains the fourth and final part of the Computer Audio series. I can't wait to read it, I always enjoy a good laugh. Also in this issue of TAS is a review of the AudioQuest Diamond USB cable by the TAS editor-in-chief Robert Harley, who's work I've always respected, with the tag line "No two USB cables sound alike. Robert Harley discovers one of the best." I guess even RH has now drank the kool-aid. Too bad, he showed so much promise.

Okay so I just read, or actually tried to read, the two articles mentioned above. The fourth part of the Computer Music series I managed to get halfway through before my head started to really hurt from all the BS this morons were spouting. For example they claim that placing one's computer on a granite base and cones not only improves the sound but then they actually assign a numeric value to the improve, as if by assigning a number value and putting their "findings" into a neat little chart makes their "findings" somehow scientifically valid. Total garbage!

Then I flipped to the Harley review of the AudioQuest USB cable and was just dumbfounded by this opening line: "The replacement of the S/PDIF interface by USB as the de facto standard for transmitting digital audio has been surprisingly rapid." WTF??

Then it hit me and now I fully understand how TAS can publish this kind of nonsense: the editors, reviewers and writers for TAS have to live in a parallel universe from the rest of us here on earth. There can be no other plausible explanation for their craziness. The good part of this revelation is that I now can be fully confident that my $5 el cheapo USB sounds just as good as the $500 AudioQuest USB cable because I'm will be using the cable here on earth and not in the TAS parallel universe!

Well, same principle applies -- because you think you've ridden a rhino (and survived) doesn't actually mean you have!
