I currently have a Squeezebox Boom and also a Touch with the Logitech Media Server installed on my desktop PC and everything works great. Can I also install the LMS on my laptop and have everything still work OK? I want to be able to use the Web Remote from my laptop. I currently access all my music files on my PC from my laptop via my network.
Thanks

yes, you can have LMS on multiple machines and then switch libraries on the players to connect to any of the instances of LMS. But I suspect that is not what you want to do. If your laptop is on the same local network (your home?) as the computer running LMS, it is much simpler. Simply enter this address in the webbrowser of your laptop:
http://192.168.1.18:9000/
except replace "192.168.1.18" with the IP address of the PC running LMS. The ":/9000/" at the end of this is what opens the LMS webcontrol.
So ANY computer on your local network can see LMS control via this approach and select music, etc. etc.Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)
Office: Win7(64) > LMS 7.7.2 > SqueezePlay
Spares: VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER
Controllers: iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop

The method suggested by garym is probably the quickest and easiest. A different approach would be to install SqueezePlay (found in http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nig...ex.php?ver=7.7) on the laptop. This will give you an interface similar to the one on the Touch with the added bonus of being able to listen to the music throuch the laptop too. There are a setting or two that you have to get right for it to work but once it's up and running it's quite elegant.
And if you're more into the minimalistic stuff and run Chrome as your browser on the laptop, there's an extension called Mini Squeezebox Control that gives you just the basic controls from the toolbar.
Ah, the life of a Squeezebox user, endless choices.

agree! and I use SqueezePlay on my laptop to control my SB Universe at least 50% of the time (yes, I'm in front of my computer too much). And as an added bonus, the SqueezePlay turns your laptop into a SB player. A few tips:
1. when you install Squeezeplay, check all the various menus. One of these is "Choose Player". Hold the left mouse button down over this selection and then with the popup menu move this to HOME menu.
2. Also give SqueezePlay on your laptop a name. Mine is "Gary's Laptop SP". This way it is clear when choosing players.
So now with SP installed, you choose whatever player you want to control and you're good to go!Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)

you *shouldn't* have to do anything special. You're sure you are using the correct IP address. Can you use a webbrowser on the machine that is actually running LMS? If so, enter this in the web browser:
http://localhost:9000/Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)
Location 2: VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio)

Yes, I use IE and Firefox frequently to access the squeezebox. Localhost:9000/ opens the web interface fine from the local PC. When I open web control from the system tray icon, my browser displays 127.0.0.1:9000/. Now that you mention it, that's probably not the url to use from the network, is it?

By convention, 127.0.0.1 is simply the numeric equivalent of 'localhost'. If you are using the web browser on a different computer from the one running LMS then you have to enter the IP address (or the computer name if your network is set up correctly) of the computer running LMS. So if your LMS is on 192.168.0.5 you would point your laptop's browser to http://192.168.0.5:9000 , and definitely not localhost.
