Dear developpers & members, (sorry for any further mistake, english is not my mother's tongue).
We are a comapny designing and enginneering Building Management Systems and Multimedia Solutions for Hotels & Resorts and Private House...
Using Slimdevices equipements since a long time (more than 5 years) in our Multimedia solutions, we have the feeling Logitech no longer follow the real advantages of the initial solution they bought.
Sync music from room to room was a really big advance in the domain, and they did not took advantages of this, neither in the software or the hardware prodcuts.(no improvement so far on the sync part)
All long term users here know by heart that a real sync (minus 250ms)can only be achieved via cable network solutions, with Wi-fi a lag comes real fast after 15 to 20s of music and reaches more than 1000ms.
Before Slim turns to logitech, we loved it so much, we had developped our own software & interface for touch screens, in order to take full advantage of the "zoning" part of SqueezeCenter with a multi-user multi sync management system with users accounts, rights and priorities (for private and professional use / House & Hotels)..., but this was only working with the slim devices (and squeezeslave - squeezeplay) with the old SqueezeCenter. Afraid of the changes with Logitech buying the Slim Company, we turned it off, providing only maintenance for existing clients and closed any further dev)...
Now, that Logitech has "killed" all initial hardware products, and even the blind box they designed 3 years ago (or maybe that was already in dev by Slim...), that box by the way could have been usefull alternative mixed with "smart sphone & tablet" devices, but they did not seem to have a real idea where to go with this product which could have been almost the ancestor of Apple TV.
By now the new products are totally no longer adapted to the actual market. (For proof you can see the trumendous discount on products on their internet site...where does an aditional remote touch control could take place in our homes when we all want to simplify at maximum all those remotes LOL).
That is why i would like to know if some developpers here think the same as we do, and if so, we could have a brainstorming for the future of the trumendous system that is to sync your music from room to room...
Now,for sure the private market no longer wants dozens of remotes to control their home, neither they want to have to switch between multiple AV sources.
That is why, we think it is time to "join - merge" the solution into some other products such as Set top box (dreambox - Vu...) or MultiMedia Players
& Servers (Plex, XMBC running on small low cost clients computers) or why not ) into Apple TV, Goolge TV...
For ourselves, we are more likely to follow the path of a Plex / XMBC solution on the software part, they are open sources and it would look naturally (my private point of vue) to find in the interface a choice to sync multiple palyers into the Home...
For the Hardware solution, that is a bit more complicated, choices are not only the consequence of our desires, but mostly taking in consideration what the client needs (does it have a TV Sat or Cable System) is it a propriatary equipement or a customisable one, does it want to have a Home Audio or Audio Video Server...
For the sever part in a small scale system, any good PC (Mac) will now do the job properly, but for the client (player), for now, we only found that Xbox or Apple TV were good for the money and would be (especially Apple TV) very "invisible" to intergrate in Private Home Multimedia solutions.
So here is, with my simple english ) where we stand with SqueezeCenter...
What about you ?
