This is an important video to understand how human hearing works. We hear with our brain, not with our ears.

Important takeaways: Hearing can be steered. Expectation bias influences perception.

I first saw this a year or so ago, when the Hydrogen Audio forum picked up on it. Poppy Crum's demonstration with the backwards Stairway to Heaven (round about the 6 min mark, I think) is great and should be compulsory viewing/listening for anyone who believes that what they hear isn't influenced by non-auditory clues.

We also see with our brain, but I would not try driving the Washington Beltway without looking!

Your takeaway point is still well taken, but expectation bias affects both the perception that there is a change as well as the perception that there is no change.

Some (most?) of the tweaks discussed in this forum may produce only the illusion of improvement, but some may not.

i personally want to be the best listener i can, and that means scientific listening...once your brain ear system learns how to..lidten right and rule out bs(cables etc), one is better off and richer. or be happily ignorant and buy foo...

I can't help but wonder how many of you implementing all these improvements have the hi-fi equipment and properly configured listening space to actually be able to resolve and discern the purported differences.
