Maybe a mad idea, but how about allowing those with IR onboard/dongle to use their physical remote to control softSqueeze?
One for the development wishlist?

Softsqueeze is in community maintenance - there is no organised development on it. Any bugs fixes or enhancements are supplied by individuals who feel motivated enough to do the work.

What's the usage scenario ?
Why IR and not one of the existing Android/iOS remotes that already works ?
What kind of remote control operations are we talking about ? Is it just play/pause/skip/reverse or are we also talking about ability to browse and select which music to play ?
Are we talking about a Windows based HTPC solution or something similar where you control everything with IR and want to control also SoftSqueeze ?
I think I've seen something about squeezeslave supporting lirc, at least the linux build, but if you want something visible on the TV screen that's obviously not a solution as squeezeslave is a player without any user interface.Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

Yes, lirc is supported with squeezeslave on linux
Squeezeslave does have a console (text based, slimp3 style) user interface if -D is specified. The size of the display can be changed with -w.
It also supports usb lcd displays (-l/-C) on linux using LCDd.Ralphy

Just thinking out loud really. I have a squeezebox and a boom, downloaded the softsqueeze application to my windows pc the other day. As the PC has an infra-red dongle I thought it would be cool to control the virtual squeezebox with the same physical remote I use to control the real one.
