Try to press the brightness button, eventually it tries to update the software. There is a firmware change between 7.4.1 and the actual version (mysqueezebox.com).

Yup, tried that jo-wie. Kept it pressed for ten minutes, till my finger hurt! :-) No go. Thanks for trying.
If I were to venture a guess at this point I would think that whichever part of the device connects to the network, that this part has died and it just can't connect at all.
I installed the latest nightly on a different machine today and it sees the Transporter fine but no go on this box. Nada! I am about ready to give up on it which breaks my heart but I have no idea beyond this what to do.

My last try would be a change of the power supply. Eventually it is faulty.

I already thought of that and bought a new power supply on eBay but to no avail. Seems the old one was good after all. Thanks.
