Unhappy My Squeezebox Classic seems to be in deep trouble

After acting flaky for few weeks which I put down to the latest software updates (!) my Squeezebox appears to have died. When plugged in it shows the Logitech logo screen followed by the Squeezebox screen followed by black nothingness! After a few seconds it repeats this sequence and then again "ad infinitum". It will not connect to the network or do anything else. I have tried resetting it by pressing the remote while powering it etc. I have tried everything I can think of or has been mentioned on the forums. Is it dead? Anyone have any ideas or seen this behavior before. I thought it might be a power supply problem but have bought a new power supply to no avail.

Try to open and remove the WLAN adapter card, eventually re-fitting could help.

I guess I should have mentioned that this SB3 is not a wifi version (it says wired only on the bottom) and is attached to my network via ethernet cable. I have tested the cable and the network connection by connecting a laptop and it's fine. It is getting power OK but is totally non responsive. I tried pressing + on the remote while plugging in but it won't respond to that. Just the two screens over and over. Every time I press a button on the remote (any button) it immediately goes black.

Did you try both the ADD and the 1 keys?

    Show Up in LMS ?

Does this unit show up in the list of players on your server web page?

If it does, there is a chance that you have the brightness reset to zero - Look under settings - Player - Display - there should be no zeros in the top three brightness fields - Try 3's, to start.

    Thanks.

I've tried all the different key presses alone and in combination while applying power to the SB. As soon as the SB detects a remote signal it just goes black. If I stop pressing the remote it goes back to the two logo screens one after the other with a few seconds pause after the Squeezebox logo. It will not reset or go into any other mode. Thank you all for trying and Merry Christmas everybody.

whdean - it does not show up in the list. It is set on bright as can be determined by the two screens it shows. Thanks.

Chris - funnily enough - my SB3 did this 2 days ago. It happened after I selected mysqueezbox.com on the player - which I've never selected before. As soon as I did this - the screen went blank. I disconnected the power source to reboot - got the logo etc. like you and then nothing - blank screen. Was running Squeezeserver 7.4.1. Went into Web Control and player not visible. Several more player reboots by disconnecting power did nothing. I rebooted the server software - no change. Finally, I reinstalled Squeezeserver 7.4.1 and the problem resolved itself. Don't know what caused it or what fixed it - however, I'm not going to select mysqueezebox.com again to find out.

Good luck Chris. My problem may not be related to yours but when I read your post - the symptom was exactly the same as what I had experienced. I think your SB3 is still ok and it is most likely a software issue. Go back to an old version and see how you go. 7.4.1 and firmware 130 works the best for me for some reason.

    regards Mike

Mike, I feel that mine is in the same boat! It just feels as though the hardware is OK and the damn software has been so flaky lately that anything could happen. I'm running 7.5.1 as later versions have a looooong delay and freeze the music for a few minutes when I click on a genre until I get a response and the list of artists and this just was not acceptable to me. The older versions work fine as one would expect. It was after going back to the old version that this problem began. I guess I'll have to go back to the latest (or try 7.4.1) to see if that fixes it. But can't do that today. Interruptions in Christmas music (via Transporter in the living room) would upset the world!!!! :-) Thanks for the info on your experience, Merry Christmas.
