I feel like the room is empty now. However I will still try and correct SBGKs suggestion.

See Johns instruction above for removing the small Surface Mount caps.
For the larger cans they have a plastic housing at their base which gets in the way a little but the solder pads can still be heated from either side. If the plastic housing is getting in the way too much it can be carefully cut out exposing more of the pads. (the plastic housing is not needed for the replacements)

Please come back and contribute people. We had a good thing happening here. Everything that others contributed inspired me to explore and share further and I hope my energy had the same effect on others. For the minority with misinformation there are probably twenty others who are responsible, can make positive contributions or are willing to learn the right way of doing things.

    1. first thing I noticed when I got SBT back from FA was that there was no wireless option even after factory reset. Phoned Brent and he said that when he connects it to his system it immediately updates the software, again this was done without my permission and I was not told about it beforehand. To date nothing Brent has suggested or I have tried has been able to return the wireless option to the menu or the wireless capability.

    2. 2 of the solder pads for the clocks had been burned off by Brent, hence my suggestion to break off the components so that the solder pads are not damaged, the last thing you want is to wire up the miniscule copper tracks to your new clock.

    3. I blew up the FA modded SBT and bought a new one and transferred the FA mods, this one has the wireless option in the menu, but wireless is not functioning after the FA mods transfer. It was working before transferring the mods. I tried to take the crystals off by using the soldering iron, but found it impossible. the easiest way was to gently break the component off, leaving a nice clean metal pad to solder onto.

    4. having found that covering things in tin foil affected the sound, I did some research and think that the change in sound is due to the tinfoil actually concentrating the rfi/emf so have removed it, nothing wrong with experimentation, I hope.

    5. Is there a list of acceptable containers/boxes that should be used for modded SBTs so that people don't get an apoplectic fit ?

It's possible, when heating with big enough iron tip and simultaneously levering up one crystal end with a flat screwdriver being squeezed between PCB and plastic base.
btw. as expected, after removing the 24M one, SBT still plays all my 44k staff

no need to be abusive, try and keep a lid on your anger otherwise you'll do yourself an injury.

well, this is a forum for discussion of hi-fi related issues. If you want to arrange for mutual masterbation then perhaps you need to look elsewhere.

    Thumbs down

If the forum moderators don't do something soon, the sensible people are going to start leaving the forum. Only the kooks, the trolls, and the kook-troll hybrids will be left. Moderators, ask yourselves: Is that really what you want?
