I don't want automatic software update notifications or automatic updates.
SBS: sorted on the advance menu - no problem.
But when I switch (on the Touch screen) to mySqueezebox.com it goes straight to 'a new update is available' screen.
How can I stop this please?

There are always two types of updates - the server software, and then the Touch.
If you have the latest server then the Touch probably needs new firmware. If it updates, then the two will be in sync. Switching off updates means once it's updated it won't ask again.1 Touch - Muse M50 EX TPA3123 T-Amp Mini - Acoustics Q10 speakers - 2 duff ears - purfek!
1 Logitech Radio + remote - purfek!
Raspberry Pi + Squeezeplug LMS + Squeezelite - Logitech Mini Boombox speaker - super purfek!
Cubieboard + Fedora 18 + LMS 7.8 + Squeezelite - Soundwave SW100 bluetooth speaker - perfek plus!

You can't, because the player firmware version must match the server software version. So if you are running an old SBS and switch to MySB it will prompt you to update, and if you switch back to your local server it will probably prompt you again to revert to the old firmware. I don't know what happens if you reject the update, the player may or may not work with a mismatched firmware depending on the changes that have been made.
Just as an idea, would it be possible to use the Touch's built-in server instead of connecting to MySB even if there is no USB drive attached?

Using the Touch's own server is a very good workaround to the server update loop. But, yes, it must have either a USB or SD card attached to function.
BTW: look around your home, in those old junk drawers, might find an old SD card laying around, my Touch is using an ancient 65mb SD card from my old Palm
Beyond that your options are:
- update your local LMS to the same version as the current MySqueezeBox.com version
- don’t switch between them (always keep player on LMS)
- do switch between them and ignore the update prompt (hit Home button on Touch & Radio)
- do switch between them and do the update/downgrade each time (as you are doing now)

I am a bit puzzled.
I have had the Touch for some months now and when I installed it it was with 7.6.1
The server has never been updated since the instal.
Yet the Touch has only starting asking me to update now!

The latest server is 7.7.1 - mysb.com has also the same settings. So, if you don't update, then you are always going to get a prompt whenever you go via mysb.com. If you update then switch off automatic updates, you won't get a firmware prompt until mysb.com is updated sometime in the future.

I don't want to update tbh as my set-up works fine and updates seem to cause problems.
I just could do without the irritating prompt!

If your Touch is connected to a local Squeezebox Server running an official release I don't think it should try to upgrade the firmware, at least not as long as you have disabled automatic upgrades in Squeezebox Server Settings.
In other scenarios it is possible to patch the firmware when logging in via ssh if someone knows lua or is willing to learn.
The relevant code is in _upgradeSink method in:
/usr/share/jive/jive/slim/SlimServer.lua
I once did a patch that disabled minor upgrades, so this might be something to be inspired by:
http://erlandapplets.googlecode.com/...ares-1.0.patch
(I later realized I could accomplish the same by disabling upgrades in Squeezebox Server)
However, I never released this officially because it can cause major issue for Logitech when people call Logitech support with issues that are caused because of their Touch firmware not being compatible with mysqueezebox.com.
Finally, don't try to do anything with the above information unless you are somewhat familiar with lua, ssh and vi, it can potentially make the device to not startup if you do something wrong when editing the files.Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

This constant updating is freaking me out!
When I want to listen web radio and choose one from my favorites, I first get some stupid error that it cant find the IP address or something. Then, when I am going to internet radio to search for these web stations it comes with the new 7.7 update. Ok, I update the thing and web radio is working again...
But when I want to listen my own music on my netgear NAS i first have to downdate it to 7.6 to be able to listen the music on it.
And guess what happens when I want to listen internet radio again? Yes, it wont work until I update it again to 7.7....
Why do I have to do this? In what world are we living? Cant this be solved? Why do I have to change between all these servers just to listen some music? This is ridiculous, stupid, not necessary.....
I dont want to be bothered with all this server bullshit. When I choose "my own music", I want to hear my own music. When I want to listen "internet radio", I choose internet radio. Why do I have to change to some kind of server with its own software version?Last edited by gaskleppie; 2011-12-17 at 06:18.
