A forum search did not find a thread dedicated to the new Raspberry Pi device so I thought I'd start one.

It should be ideal for running SlimServer (or whatever it is called nowadays).
Their aim is to sell the populated board for $25 (more for extra memory and an ethernet connection).
ARM-powered, probably running Fedora but other O/S sure to be available.

Maybe we should wait until they actually release the product. Some of us have been already waiting months for them to actually ship a product. They had originally planned to release it for the fall, then Nov, then Dec, they are saying maybe they will have it out next march/April of 2012.
It will have no case. So vaporware until we can hold it in our hand. They should do less talking and just focus all their energy on getting out the product.

Something you can actually buy already, has a case, enough RAM and a slightly faster proc; more expensive of course, but rather complete. Don't know which OS/distro should be best for it, though.

The difference is cost ! the PI will be far the cheaper solution ! I cannot wait till it hits the market. ARM really are making progress, no wonder Windows 8 has been complied for ARM also...

The first 10 beta boards went on sale on eBay recently.
Sale completed for first 2 and they went for around 1400GBP average.

One problem was found with the beta - which required a scratch and solder fix - which they say is corrected in the final board.Paul Webster
