Media scan terminated unexpectedly

Hi,

I have never had Squeezebox server / LMS working since 7.6, and OSX 10.7.2

I was hoping that 7.7.X would help and give me a working SB again, but no such luck. Everytime i try and scan. i get the above message. I have tried with and without iTunes but it makes no difference. I have included my scanner log below, and I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on the problem for me as I really miss my music!

I have OSX 10.7.2 and LMS 7.7.1 / r33715.

Afraid I can't offer a solution but no, you're not alone. I've searched everywhere for a solution but failed miserably. This has been going on for aver a week now so if I can't find a fix in the next couple of days I'll be going back to an old version. Really frustrating. It's the first time I've had any problems but at the moment this one is making my squeebox pretty useless.

There are reports of this affecting more users on other forums, surely the support should be looking into it?

I've had a lazy day today and have tried everything I can think of.

I have had some success and at least now can play "most' of my music.

In the end, I used the options in the system preferences to delete all prefs and clear caches, and ran the script a few times.

This got it to scan, although it won't update music, I get the same error, but if I clear and scan all it doesn't error.

It still gets hung up on artwork scans, but as far as I can tell they still appear OK.

I hope this helps a bit, and I agree the support id certainly slacking a bit, but I guess they have their hands full.

I'm running OS 10.5.8 on a Mac MINI... been working for 7-years this way. I had the same problems when first jumping to 7.7.x until I did the following:

Shutdown server, deleted ALL Slim/Squeeze data in Users/(user name)/Library/Caches that had to do with the server and re-installed 7.7.1. Currently re-scanning everything but will report back when it's done.

I've been running 7.7.1 nightlies since without any problems.

Since the 7.7 upgrade, which did nothing except add Logitech to the server name in place of "Slimserver", broke one of my plugins, and forced me to manually re-add the start link to init.d, I have not been able to do the short rescan where it only looks for new music.

The result is the server crashes on caching cover art. The only way I can get it to work is to clear and rescan everything and with over 620 discs, that can take awhile.

Hoping there's a new release soon, but I definitely will check this forum before jumping on an update again.

I was really excited to move to 7.7, but my media scan (only music) won't complete without this "Media Scan Terminated Unexpectedly" error...

I have reluctantly moved back to 7.6.1, which completes a scan of my entire music library without error...

I am happy to work with anyone at Logitech to resolve this issue, including providing scanning logs, etc... I really do want to move to 7.7!!!

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm running LMS on a Vortexbox, one of the guys on the VB forum suggested removing all embedded album art too. Unfortunately, neither solution worked for me.

have you filed a bug with this output ? Do you have a folder.jpg or cover.jpg or simialr art file that really is an jpeg image in the album folders, no permission problems on the artwork ? No residual "weird" windows thumbs :-/ .

This looks like pure bug to me , maybe increase the log level for scanning and artwork while trying.

The vortexbox distro have some patches here and there ? there is no difference in Artwork.pm on the VB distro compared tonwhat logitech delivers ? vb does it have some artwork dowload feature.

For some reason later sbs and lms uses *any* image in the folder if it can't find any image that fits the "pattern" of embedded or folder/cover/thumb.
IMO this is a bad idea a random pic can be just anything and make things unstable and it should not use thumb either that is usually low res pic left by windows or wmp.
The only thing it shuold second gues is the case make Folder.jpg and folder.jpg the same..
