Hi all,
I'm looking to migrate my SBS from win 7 to a Linux machine.
I'm pretty new at Linux btw.
I have an old machine available that will do the job as a stand alone media server.
My options are:
1. Try out VortexBox or
2. Put it on Linux Mint 11 as I already use it on my laptop.
My first stumbling block is trying to install it on Mint 11.
I have tried to add the repository...
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
in Package Manager but it reports back an error 404 file not found.
So, am I going about this the right way?
Am I using the right repository?
Have I got the right syntax in deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main?
Also any comments on which will be my best option of the two would be appreciated.
Thanks and Regards

I got them from a post here http://www.havetheknowhow.com/Instal...ox-server.html

You could try the alternate repository recommended in this posting:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpo...53&postcount=8
It fixed an issue I was having with a size mismatch error I was receiving.

Hmmm.
Tried to load "deb http://debian-origin.slimdevices.com stable main"
But it comes up with the same error as the original repository ...
Failed to fetch http://debian-origin.slimdevices.com...source/Sources 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://debian.slimdevices.com/dists/...source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 205.128.90.126 80]
Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Some packages are showing as available in package manager but watching it rum most of them failed to load so I'm worried it will cause problems down the line if I try to install any of them. Am I worrying unnecessarily?Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.1 - r33735 @ Mon Nov 28 16:44:47 MST 2011

Earlier this week I installed LMS on a netbook running Ubuntu 10.04. I followed the instructions on the wiki: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/DebianPackage.
Don't forget to update the package manager (Reload from the toolbar) or "apt-get update" from the command line.

I have tried these instruction from that page
"Instructions for Ubuntu:
Editing the sources.list and installing the SqueezeCenter package on Ubuntu can also be achieved using the GUI. Go to System / Administration / Synaptic Package Manager (provide your password). In the Manager select Settings / Repositories and click the Third Party Software tab, click +Add and provide one of the "deb xxx" strings mentioned above. In the first tab Ubuntu software make sure that the Universe is selected as well. After clicking Reload the list of packages will show SqueezeCenter as additional package which will be downloaded and installed along with its dependencies."
But when I try to reload I get the errors.
I also get an error every time update manager tries to refresh while the slimdevices repository is enabled.
Which of the three repositories did you use?
Did you get any errors?
Is it running ok?
Did you do it from the command line or gui?
Is there any difference? Should I try from the command line?
Thanks for the help btw :-)Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.1 - r33735 @ Mon Nov 28 16:44:47 MST 2011

I added this to the repository list: deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
You might try to update from the command line, as you suggested.
Another option is to uninstall and reinstall Synaptic (see the Synaptic HowTo here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto).

Thanks Tim, that’s the same repository I was trying.
I'll try it from the command line when I can.Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.1 - r33735 @ Mon Nov 28 16:44:47 MST 2011

Another option is to download the Debian/Ubuntu package from http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download. Simply right-click on the downloaded deb file and choose "Open with GDebi package installer". It should install the server and pull down the needed dependencies.
