Squeezebox Server --> Media Server but... what's really new?

    Hello

A question about users like me who have one SqueezeBox Server with some SqueezeBox Touch or Radio: is there any significant new functionality for us after upgrading to "Media Server"?

I checked the menus on my Touch and could not find anything but maybe that's because it doesn't want to upgrate to 7.7.0, even though SBS and MySB are both 7.7.0.

The extra features are for the benefit of Logitech Revue owners, not Squeezebox owners.

    Go figure.

And if you are really lucky it migth coicidentaly work on other dlna players such as some bluray players or tv or game consols or other devices, but Logitech has basically only tested aginst their own revue product, all 20 revue owners are going to be pleased

A spinn off is that we now have the posibility to specify multiple folders.
Another spinn of is a simple picture viewer in the web UI and on players/controllers with a display( this has nothing to do with music, wasted dev time imho )

And bugfixes, and the MOG service will eventually be added, it's already aviable via test.mysqueezebox.com but it's not quite ready yet.

What are you missing from the MOG implementation?

I was just saying that it is not released yet, just assuming that you are working on it until it is released, I see some additions in bugzilla where you fix small issues .
I'm in the wrong country I cant try it.
I'm convinced that it can be a challenge for spotify to live up to .
Where I live only wimp or spotify is possible for this kind of service .

In general more services are better for all of us, it makes the product more attractive so by all means keep on adding them

Doesn't that UPnP acronym have that UNIVERSAL in it?

In theory, in practice the player implementation seems to differ.
The more mature upnp servers has years of bugfixing and workarounds to acomodate certain clients .

OK lets say it might work on other players than revue .

And sometimes (I've heard ) players have custom functions that only work with some servers. But here is the limit of my knowledge have no PS3 or XBOX360 or some such to try with so i would not know in detail.

Being able to use a Touch as a UPnP renderer opens the whole thing up - and means you can user other server and controller software than Logitechs. For example you could use Asset UPnP, or J River Media Center as a server and Kinsky, Plugplayer or Songbook as a controller. There's a lot more development happening in the UPnP world - the Touch must have a limited life, after all for most people why would you spend 3 times more on a Touch than a Revue, when the Revue will stream video, picture, web as well as music. The writing is on the wall methinks ..
