I foolishly thought 7.7.0 would be a worthwhile upgrade. When first installed it scanned and ran OK. It has not run since.
Control Panel and the tray say it is running, but it isn't. There is no server or service for LMS that I can find.
The Control Panel diagnostics say:
"Logitech Media Server is running but can't be contacted on port 9000.The following applications might be blocking your connection:"
But nothing is listed.
The server log has had no entries at all since first installation and scan (last night).
I have tried run at startup, run at logon, and don't start automatically. None seem to make any difference.
I have reinstalled. No joy.
I have run as admin, and as a normal user.
I had a few of the following in the Windows log, but can't find out who or what has generated them. The latest installation hasn't generated them.
"The description for Event ID 0 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
OpenSCManager failed:
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table"
Is 7.7.0 totally broken? What am I missing?

LMS won't start
LMS 7.8 on VortexBox Midi, FLACs 16 or 24 bit. Touch on Ethernet (in another room), digital out to a Musical Fidelity M1 CLiC. Old wireless laptop running Linux Mint Debian controls server using Chromium. Squeezelite on Ubuntu & Windows desktops plus the laptop. Meridian Explorer USB DAC to listen directly to Vortexbox & other PCs as required. Spare Touch in loft!

PasTim, just as a datapoint, I can report that I installed 7.7.0 on my office machine (Dell desktop running Win7(64)professional) and it installed fine and scanned my about 67,000 files fine. I have the folders set to scan only audio files. All scanned (pretty fast too) and artwork, etc. is fine. LMS is using the standard ports, etc. I didn't have to make any changes to the install.
I know this doesn't solve your issue, but just wanted to confirm that it *can* work. You might try an uninstall, then reinstall.Location 1: VortexBox Appliance 6TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet)

I wish.
I'm still stuck.
I un-installed completely, re-installed, spent the usual hours setting up all my usual plugins, settings and directories as I want, then rescanned, which, by the way, took quite a lot longer than with 7.6.1. All sort of OK so far.
Rebooted. Now the tray and control panel both say SB is running when it isn't, as before. There is no squeeze server or service, as before. The diagnostic again states:
"Logitech Media Server is running but can't be contacted on port 9000.The following applications might be blocking your connection"
There's nothing in the windows event log or sbs server log.
I turned off my firewall, virus checker. No difference.
What do I have to do to keep LMS running? Give up and go back to 7.6 (or even earlier)? I'm really struggling to understand what Logitech have done. I'm not totally ignorant about PCs, having spent all my life in computing. However, without any diagnostic info what the blazes am I expected to do?LMS 7.8 on VortexBox Midi, FLACs 16 or 24 bit. Do you have any third party plugins installed ?
Some of my plugins execute some code at startup and this can sometimes take a bit of time.Erland Isaksson (My homepage)
