What is the best procedure for downgrading SB Server?

I was very pleased with running 7.55 under Ubuntu (11.04). I finally yielded to the temptation and upgraded to 7.61. Music has been buffering constantly.

So I am planning to go to 7.5.6.

    Question:
What steps should I take to downgrade?
(apt-get remove and then install the .deb file I already downloaded?)
    OR
(simply install right over the currently installed version? presumably after stopping the service.)
    OR
    (something I hadn't even anticipated)

Your knowledgeable recommendations would be very much appreciated!

Backup your prefs and plugins files...

I did not feel the need for downgrading from 7.6, and never used 7.5 (jumped from 7.4 to 7.6).
But I did downgrade a few times in the past without much issue.
    What I do:
    - backup the SBS files (stuff in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver, search for posts on what to backup here or on the wiki pages)
    - apt-get remove, auto-remove (for orphaned libs), and then dpkg install
    - examine the conf and selectively restore files from the backup if needed

(I think 7.5 used mysql when 7.6 uses sqllite. You might need to pull a mysql 5 installation with apt, providing the environment fit to dpkg install 7.5)

    Thanks

I followed your steps pretty closely.

I had to do the remove procedure a couple times to finally "shake loose" the remnants of the various dependencies.

I had to force an install of the mysql developer libs because the squeezeboxserver package did not demand them itself and kept failing. Once I did all that, I successfully installed and started scanning my library again.

No more rebuffering. (I was running my Boom with a direct ethernet cable connection on a gigabit network so I knew this was not a wifi or bandwidth problem.)

It's great to have my music back.
