    Arvo Part

Was recently introduced to Arvo Part. Quite... sublime.

Can someone recommend some really high-quality recordings of any of his music -- something to make my audiophile rig shine?

I know Part mainly from his choral music, which is absolutely wonderful. Properly done, it is practically the definition of music that will show the best of serious audio equipment. The dynamic range is remarkable, and the shiver-inducing chords of the choir are often magnificent.

I particularly like the version of Magnificat done by the Dale Warland Singers (now sadly disbanded). It is on the wonderful recording called December Stillness, which should not be mistaken for a "Christmas" recording. There is much other great choral music on this recording. You can buy it from Amazon at:

    http://www.amazon.com/December-Still...0009876&sr=1-1

It may be available for download somewhere, other than the inferior MP3s that Amazon sells.

For a full CD of Part, check out his Berliner Messe (and others), also available on Amazon at:

    http://www.amazon.com/Arvo-P%C3%A4rt...0010826&sr=1-9

    Truly magnificent!

There is another great-value CD of Part's music, two CDs, with both choral and instrumental works. It's called "The Very Best Of Arvo Part". I do not own this one, but a friend has recommended it. Probably not the very best recordings, but high-quality and excellent value. See it at:
