    some albums duplicated

I've just entered the world of Squeezebox, and it's great, but a little confusing.

I'm running Squeezebox Server on a Freenas server, and I just have a SB Boom so far.

I'm busy ripping all my CDs to flac and adding them to the server. About 10% of my albums are showing duplicated on SB Server software (& Boom), even though there is only one copy on the server. I've had a look at the tags and can't see anything wrong. Occasionally I get 3 or 4 copies of the same album. I'm on a roll with the ripping and tagging doing the same thing for each album, so I can't understand why it's a sporadic problem.

Could someone help me track down what the problem is please?

If you have any playlist files (.m3u or others) in the folders, they will be scanned as well as the tags in the music files themselves. This is recent. Earlier editions only looked the the "playlist" folder for these files.

The easiest way to avoid that problem is to use the disabled file extensions settings in Settings > Advanced > File Types. I seem to recall that m3u files have been scanned in the past when in the music folder. I've always had to keep the m3u file extension in Disabled Audio File Extensions. It may be that it was for an older version of the server and the behavior was changed but has returned again.

Disabled Audio File Extensions = m3u, cue
Disabled Playlist File Extensions = cue

Entering 'cue' here isn't necessary if you don't store CUE sheets in library. And if you have single file rips with CUE sheets, you also wouldn't want to include it.

    Thanks

I don't have any playlists. I tried the solution anyway, but it didn't work.

    Any more ideas?

I've checked for rogue ID3 tags, but can't see any.

PS is there a 'proper' way to clear the cache?

Ooops, I just found a thread telling me how to check the file locations and discovered copies of some albums hiding under another artist, so most of it is now fixed.

I just have a handful of albums left with a duplicate with only one track of the album in.

Can anyone help with this, please?

OK, I'm on a roll this morning!

It's an album art problem. The art tag is missing from one of the tracks, which then appears repeated in sb server as it's own album.

I must have selected the art tag from a slightly different edition of the CD with one fewer tracks, so it hasn't applied it to the missing track. I'm fixing it by removing all art tags and selecting a different version of the art with the correct number of tracks.

Is there a way to just add the art to the last track?

Yes, mp3tag can do the job. But if it was me I'd pull up the entire album and add the same art to all those album tracks at the same time so I had consistency in the album.

This should be made into a sticky. I just installed the latest, and couldn't figure out why only a certain subset of albums was doing this. Read your post, moved my playlist directory out from under my music directory, and voila, life was good again.

    Thanks.

Playlist and CUE sheet scanning are totally ****ed up right now. Nobody knows what is supposed to be scanned, when it's supposed to be scanned, or even why it's scanned any more.
