    Coming Soon - Storm Corrosion

Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Akerfeldt’s (Opeth) long in the making collaboration record ‘Storm Corrosion’ has finally been completed.

    Some interesting info here:

That should be interesting. I'm looking forward to this too!!

    Update...
...just read the press release. I read why Mike Portnoy wasn't involved...it's because they didn't do the "progressive metal thing". Apparently the album is more orchestral and minimalist, not really needing a drummer like Portnoy.

    Now I'm skeptical...:-(

Yeah if you look at the last 2 albums from each you would not be too surprised to hear that it's not prog metal. But that would have been pretty sweet indeed if MP was also involved.

    I'm ready.

Of course there are those in the Audiophile section that might (by their force of conviction and ignorance of physics) revoke reality.

These things happen. (Tunguska, American Idol, ..)

In that case, delivery might be delayed.

True enough. I really like the last opeth album. SW's last one was pretty good too. I do miss the days of in absentia, dead wing, and fear of a blank planet though. It seems SW is onto his next creative phase.

So what's the verdict on this?

I like it quite a lot. I've seen a lot of negative comments, but if you've heard all of the SW projects (including Bass Communion) and Opeth's Heritage album then I don't think anything should come as a surprise. I can see why it'd be a shock if you've only heard Opeth pre-Heritage and Porcupine Tree post-2001.

Not even sure how you would categorize it... but I'm tempted to call it "Death New Age".
