And I can even grab either the bass or treble curve and move it up or down (-db or +db) and this sticks ok.

    But here's what I can't do:
    1. I gather that there should be an option in SETTINGS > ADVANCED > FILETYPES to set to inguz instead of say, FLAC native or mp3 native. I don't see these options on any filetypes.

    2. If I click on the Settings option to the right of the EQ plugin, the browser just churns and never shows me any options at all.

Any thoughts on what I've done wrong or what I'm missing?
You won't see the Inguz filetypes until the plugin has successfully registered your client(s) / players.
Several restarts of SBS are usually required...

You should see a file called custom-convert.conf in the Inguz folder... does this have entries for each of your players (keyed on MAC address) ?
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

Aha. I recall doing at least two SbS restarts. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try it all again this weekend when I'm there again.

And I wonder if anything is related to the fact that I had two players synched the entire time (a TOUCH and a RADIO).

I'd imagined that you would, given your line of work.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Shouldn't affect Inguz.
The key is that custom-convert.conf file. Take a copy of it when you go. The one in the Inguz folder is the one that matters, others are ignored.

The inguz plugin.pm code generates entries in that file for each player it finds connected to SBS when SBS starts. It only does this once (but will try and find any new players every time SBS starts).

Provided inguzdsp.exe is in the right folder, it will be called by the custom-convert.conf entries... so long as filetypes is set to use the inguzdsp option. So...

    1) make sure custom-convert.conf in the Inguz folder has entries for each of your players
    2) make sure inguzdsp.exe is in the right place
    3) make sure filetypes is OK
    4) play a track and check with Task Manager that flac.exe (2 lots) and inguzdsp are running during playback - also check a file called log.txt in the Inguz folder - this is the log file that inguzdsp.exe writes to.
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

Thanks Phil. I'll work on it. I'm guessing I have flac.exe running somewhere on my computer. Does it need to be in any certain directory for inguz to find it....

    Tact DRC

So, I'm taking a deep breath and putting my ignorance out there for all to see....

I see that the Tact RCS 2.2 XP is also called a "digital preamplifier". Can you effectively use one of these if you already have what I have--an integrated amplifier? Or, would the implementation of the Tact require ditching the LFD integrated amp and starting over w/something different? Still learning (a lot!)............

It's not Inguz that runs it but SBS (when it executes the command line formatted inside the custom-convert.conf file). Flac.exe needs to be in the same folder as lame.exe, inguzdsp.exe, sox.exe etc.

Phil, could you elaborate a bit more about your experience with Behringer gear? In particular, would you say that there might be a SQ deterioration with a DEQ2496 (between the SBTouch and an external DAC) significant enough to offset any EQ or DRC improvement?

A TACT unit may be more advanced than the Behringer, but the price difference between TACT and DEQ2496 is not trivial, of course.

Thanks very much for your thoughts.

TACT DRC units run fine into the line inputs of integrated amps. You can also use them fine into power amps. No need to ditch anything.
