Logitech Media Server 7.7 dosn't work on Fedora 16 (perl 5.14.1)

Fedora 16 with Perl 5.14.1 will be out around the same time as LMS is released so it's important that they work together.

When I run LMS on Fedora 16 I get an error
The following modules failed to load: DBI EV XML::Parser::Expat JSON::XS Digest::SHA1 YAML::XS Sub::Name

This usually mean LMS can't find it's perl libs and sure enough

    /usr/libexec/squeezeboxserver --d_startup

    shows

    Extended @INC to contain:
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14/i386-linux-thread-multi
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14.1/i386-linux-thread-multi
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14.1/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14/i386-linux-thread-multi
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto
    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/i386-linux-thread-multi

Looks like LMS is looking in the old location not

    /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.14/i386-linux-thread-multi-64int

I renamed i386-linux-thread-multi-64int to i386-linux-thread-multi and tried again

This time I got a lot farther but I still get

The following modules failed to load: EV

I created a bug report for this

    http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17597

Has anybody managed to get LMS working on Fedora 16 or a Perl 5.14.1 platform?

Similar problem with SBS 7.7.2-1 and Fedora 16 :-(

The links seem to imply that this has been fixed, but I am getting almost exactly the same errors.

    What is the recommended solution?

Fixed the CPAN issues, now just have problem with 'modules.conf'

OK, I fixed the CPAN path issues, by creating the following symbolic link:

    ln -s /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN /usr/libexec/CPAN

My only issue now is that I am getting a modules.conf not found error:

    "modules.conf not found at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/bootstrap.pm line 352."

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Feel like I'm a one-man band here :-(

OK, kind-of fixed the modules.conf issue, by adding yet another symbolic link:

    sudo ln -s /etc/squeezeboxserver/modules.conf /usr/libexec/modules.conf

However, I am now getting errors relating to module versions (I think):

    [kk@mserver libexec]$ ./squeezeboxserver
The following CPAN modules were found but cannot work with Logitech Media Server:
    CGI::Cookie (loaded <not found>, need 1.27)
    DBIx::Class (loaded <not found>, need 0.08112)

To fix this problem you have several options:
    1. Install the latest version of the module(s) using CPAN: sudo cpan Some::Module
    2. Update the module's package using apt-get, yum, etc.
    3. Run the .tar.gz version of Logitech Media Server which includes all required CPAN modules.

    Can't locate object method "easy_closure_global_cleanup" via package "Log::Log4perl" at /usr/local/share/perl5/Log/Log4perl/Logger.pm line 65.
END failed--call queue aborted at ./squeezeboxserver line 141.

Looks to me like the last option might be simplest (I may be wrong there however) but where is the .tar.gz version?

youre not a one man band .. most give up with LMS its CPAN has been causing nightmares for years ... basically if it were not for teh excellent hardware being locked in to it noone would use it. I mean come on it doesnt even have half decent playlist management or trackrating built in ... you have to use a playlist manager plugin (which is good) that someone periodically updates if they get round to it and now ypou have to buy a god aweful trackrating plugin from some guy ... really crap

I'm yet again having the CPAN issues witht he latest PERL my arm wheezy distro has and am forced to try and find out how to compile the CPAN binaries what comes out and where they go ... absolutely nothing from Logitech to help other than a couple of lines to tell you to install PerlBrew in the build.sh cscript ... probably few people understand how to do it so you end up with your squeezebox kit out of service for months before Logitech support the latest PERL

    what a mess !

Yes, a mess, but a bug has already been filed.

IMHO, Philip Meyer updates it more often then Logitech updates some of their stuff.
Just out of interest, are you missing something in it or are you affected by some bug that makes you think it needs more regular updates ?

Just the be clear, setting/viewing rating for a single song in TrackStat is actually free, it's browsing and doing smart playlists by ratings that requires the commercial option.
It's also possible to use the free iTunes Update plugin to set/view ratings if you prefer that, but I guess it can be problematic to use it on Linux if that's what you are using.

However, I understand your point and agree that ratings should be part of the standard server software, to indicate that you also believe this you can vote on the following bugzilla report:
    http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=142

If you have suggestions how TrackStat could be improved (except for making it free), I appreciate your comments, but in that case please use/start a thread about it in the "3rd party software" section in the forum.

And if you were looking for ability to create smart playlists based on ratings, you can also vote on this one:
    http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=380

And if you want better playlist management for static playlists, please take the time and post your thoughts in the following thread:
    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...nage-playlists

As a side note, I'm sorry I couldn't justify spending many hours every week to support and maintain my plugins for free, I wish I could but after doing it for free several years it just wasn't possible to justify spending that much time on them unless I got some kind of compensation for the effort.

Port LMS to C. You'd be everybody's hero.
