I have the same problems. Scans hang at the end and must be manually terminated.

I also have problems scanning.
If I do a manual scan, or reset and scan everything, it normally runs fine.
But the automatic rescans, that run every night on my system hangs at the end of the scan. The status bar in the control panel shows full, and the clock/timer stands still (normally at 7min 4x seconds). It just hangs there.
No rescans run after this, and i only find out somethings wrong, when I try to browse folders from the squeezebox (cant do that while scanning), or if I open the web-interface/control panel, and see it running.
I'm running 7.7.1, on a PC, but the music library is on a nas, so scanning is done over the network.Last edited by IvRak; 2012-01-11 at 13:44.

I will just add.
Cancelling the scan that has frozen, and starting a new scan always results in a normal scan, without problems.
This problem has existed, ever since they began using SQLite, and the new scanner that was introduced.
It's very annoying, because you never know if you are uptodate, or if the scanner has hung itself.Last edited by IvRak; 2012-01-11 at 13:45.

Music Scanning on ReadyNAS NV+
I've got an older ReadyNAS NV+ (sparc architecture like the v1 Duo). SqueezeServer now LMS has been hit and miss with music scanning from very early versions. Sad to say our Sparc's are rapidly becoming quirky orphans regarding SBS aka LMS.
Here are some things that worked for me in the past. Turn off the "experimental" music scanning option listed in the ReadyNAS Streaming Server config section.
My music files are stored on the NAS where SBS runs but my iTunes music management app runs on my WinXP and also my wife's iMac, therefore iTunes playlist integration is problematic. I have to edit the iTunes XML database file (not really the database iTunes uses but the generated copy iTunes makes available to other apps) in a word processor (find & replace) to convert pathways to the MP3's from the perspective of the NAS. Be aware that SBS seems very particular about case-sensitivity in paths; file//c/NAS-music/iTunes/iTunesMusic/SomeArtist/SomeAlbum/SomeSong.mp3 is case sensative. Change any letter's case and the music scanner will reject it, at least for playlists and I suspect in other ways.
When updating SBS it is very important to follow the recommended procedures to the letter, which involves running Clean_SqueezeCenter_DB several times in the process to clean out config files and abandoned caches related to database management. iTunes integration is very spotty, always has been. I often turn it off and just export my iTunes playlists manually as m3u files to be placed in the SBS "playlists" folder which you can assign in the SBS settings. Foreign characters in song titles, paths, tags are a huge issue even for more mainstream SBS architectures (MacOSX, Windows).
It is fortunate the Squeezebox hardware has been as good as it is because the server software wins few fans for the platform... in my opinion. Full disclosure I'm a hardware/software design geek from the days of the Intel 4040 (4 bits, overlapping multi-phase external clock circuits ...oye!) so my relationship with the priests of software has been rocky for decades now.
good luck... "I'm pullin for ya, were all in this together" Red/Green

7.7.1 fixes issues
I had this annoying issue too and had pretty much given up on SBS to play music . However after upgrading to 7.7.1 on my Synology NAS, the automatic daily rescan now completes reliably. I didn't change anything except do the upgrade.
I can even browse my music by folder and play stuff, which would have been painful in previous versions. No hanging and the slimserver.pl process seems to be less of a resource hog than before..
Just anecdotal observations, but very happy with the new version!

Just posted in General. Sorry I didn't see this thresd first. Been having same issue. Keep getting:
Progress information from the previous scan is not available.
Music files are on my internal hard drive. Only way I can get new files recognized is to do a complete clear and rescan all.
Even reboot won't find new files. Running 7.7.1
HELP Logitech!!!!

Scanning problems with 7.7.1 on WD MBLive
Running 7.7.1 r33735 on a WD MyBook Live 3TB
Have yet to complete a scan. It gets through the first 2 to 3 steps then hangs very quickly with the media. I've tried removing media that it has a problem with, but it then doesn't get much further stopping with the same problem on something else. End of log:
[12-03-03 07:03:33.3897] main::main (340) Error: Failed when running main scan: [Can't call method "name" on an undefined value at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Schema.pm line 2747.
]
[12-03-03 07:03:33.3913] main::main (341) Error: Skipping post-process & Not updating lastRescanTime!
During the scan, it throws up lots of errors with .m4a podcasts, even though I have .m4a excluded in the File Types settings.
Also, Custom Browse never succeeds, it just reports lots of a similar errors to the above in the Server log:
[12-03-03 08:39:50.0591] Slim::Networking::IO::Select::__ANON__ (147) Error: Select task failed calling Slim::Web::HTTP:
rocessHTTP: Can't call method "name" on an undefined value at /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/CustomBrowse/MenuHandler/BaseMenuHandler.pm line 1594.
; fh=Slim::Web::HTTP::ClientConn=GLOB(0x1588ed80)
...and sure enough, the Custom Browse menus I get aren't what I've configured.
Any ideas???
Thanks

Scanning running very slow
Hi
Have just got my touch. My scanning has not stopped but it has been running for 31 hours finding 15000 of 54000 songs (of wich i guess approx 20000 is FLAC and some files in each folders are covers, pictures and the like). Using a Synlogic NAS where the music is stored and were LMS 7.7.1 runs.
Is this slow progress normal? What can i do? Should i make a new folder on my NAS with only mp3 ?

same problem
I am running the Ready NAS Ultra4+. With 7.7.2 and 4.2.20 (t42) as the firmware. After I had to do a factory reset of my NAS drive and reload everything from a backup copy, the new version of LMS hangs during scan. I was able to get a complete scan (and only once) by moving a bunch of music around. But since that first scan, it stops during any new scans or hangs. It also does not log what it is doing, and yes I have set the scan to Debug. But the log doesnt show any of the scanning information. So I have 80% of my music, but nothing of new music. SO any help!! its so frustrating.
