Hi
I’m running my sbs on a vortexbox, so I tried to post this at the vortexbox forum, but they suggest me to post it here instead. I really hope someone can help.
Let me try to explain, and plaese ask if i missed some details :-)
I have an issue, actually my 3 players repeatedly disconnecting to the server and immediately reconnects to the server again. I have never experience any buffering problems and my music is playing very well. In the dropdown menu in the server (where to change player), sometimes my players disappears for a second or to. Not them all at the same time. Sometimes the touch and sometimes the radio and even my squeeze play disconnects also.
Ipeng also experience problems by constantly switching from one player to another without any warning, it’s very frustrating. When looking at the player menu in ipeng, I can see all my players disconnects one at time. My way to get out of this problem, is to stop the squeezebox service in service manager and start it again. Then everything has been working for 2 days, without any disconnecting, until today when I performed a totally restart of my vortexbox. After some hours my problems are back again. Now I performed a server restart again (only the squeezebox service), and it is obvious my problems are gone for a while.
In order to make some problem determination, I tried to ping (-t) to my vortexbox and my players to see if something failed here, but replied fine as well.
I’m running vortexbox with all updates including sbs 7.61.
I’m not familiar by looking at the serverlogfile, so it doesn’t make sense for me at all. Here is a snapshot (attach in a file), before the server restart. This scenario is repeating several times in a minute sometimes.
Hope it makes sense.

Looks like your listening to BBC radio streaming. What happens when you play a local FLAC file from your VortexBox?
rip, tag, get cover art… All you do is insert the CD!

When I "turn off" things on the "System Configuration" screen, why do they start again when VB restarts? Shouldn't I expect these settings to "stick?"

I have never used the BBC plugin, so I can just remove it,even though I don’t think it will make any difference. In fact, it doesn’t matter what I’m playing. Even if my players are in standby, they disconnects to the server and ipeng. Just to clarify, I have absolutely no problems when i'm playing music at all. Except, if I’m trying to navigate, using the sbs- webgui (change to the next song or something) in this second my player disconnects. I have to press 2-3 times at the next button before it responds.
//pski, yes even though you are stopping these “services” here, they will start again during a restart. I think, You have to make a uninstall.

Hi again.
It turns out my problem is related to my way to use the system. Because when my players have been in “idle” for a while, my server is configured to suspend my system by using the pwrswr plugin. This function is very reliable, and I really don’t want to miss it, but unfortunately is seems like something happens when my system has been suspended. Before suspend my players stays connected but after suspend my players disconnects randomly.
At this time my vortexbox is running very well with this suspend function disabled.
So something happens after suspend, when sbs tries to reconnect to my players. As mentioned all my players connects but randomly disconnects again.
Just to clarify, I have never experience any dropouts/buffering problems at all.
I ran htop, and everything seems to be normal here and SBS doesn’t log anything related to this issue.
I really find it difficult, where to start my problem determination.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

I have the same problem with 7.6.1 installed on Win XP. The Squeezeboxes disconnect for a few seconds and then re-connect. But only when they are not playing music.
My music server (Win 7) with 7.5.5 doesn't have this problem.
Compared to my other Squeezeserver problems this is one of the minor problems... *wry smile*

Hey Enmedio
Interesting. Are you using any kind of sleepmode, suspend/hibernate, on your pc?
It does only happens for me after a suspend/resume cycle. For me it’s not a minor problem because it happens when I’m playing music, also. So now I’m leaving my votexbox on 24x7. For me it really seems like a sbs problem, especially now when you are saying you can’t replicate the problem under 7.5.5.
As mentioned, it has no impact for the playing music at all, no interruptions. But when it comes to ipeng , it’s definitely a problem, because when sbs loses connection to a player-just for a second or to, ipeng immediately reacts by switching to another player. In real, it’s so confusing.
Thanks for sharing your similar problems.
Regards, Henrik
