    Yes it makes a difference.
There is a bug raised on 7.6.1 music scanner performance UNC compared to directly mounted. But I am not sure that Logitech can do much about the issue.

If you want LMS to scan anything but music the scanner crashes all the time.
    The UPnP/DNLA doesn't work.
When the scanner crashes the only way I can get anything to work again is by uninstalling LMS and then reinstall.
From time to time it loses the directories where the music, video and photos is placed and there is no way to add them back again.
And just now I have discovered that it has changed the directories for scanning to default directories for music, videos and photos from Windows.

I just don't see this as an RC1. It is just too buggy.
personally, i think the devs should do their main testing on windows machines, and everything else after, since it is undoubtably windows more than anything else people run server on.

however, the devs don't "live" in windows, and so it always seems to me that those server versions only get properly looked after when windows users report back to the devs the problems they find in windows.

jmho, don't bite my head off.

Windows is a nightmare, this is what QA teams are supposed to be for, back when we had one...

BTW, RC1 is just that, the 1st one... I never thought for a second that it was going to be good enough.

Thanks for coming back. I am now on 33442 with the paths corrected and it looks like my 35000 pics will be done in about 7 hours. I'll report back full scan times tomorrow morning when it's all done

well, that seems to prove my point. i certainly don't begrudge you your distaste of windows, you're def entitled to it! but the reality is a huge majority of your customers, well over 50% i'd imagine, "live" in windows and run server on windows.

that being the case, it only seems sensible to me for your own testing to start there, to target your main demo. also, it seems like if you get it working on windows first, its less likely to not work elsewhere.

this isn't meant as a personal criticism btw, but rather a constructive critique to help development going forward. i could be all wet, so i'm just floating it out there respectfully.

i really like the current direction you're taking server, and i'm sure RC1 will improve, and i'm getting more and more tempted to buy a revue as a consequence.

So what you are basically saying is that this is not tested at all on Windows?
That would explain this a lot!

mhmmm - then you just tricked us in testing your Beta

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Softwar...ease_candidate

Please don't use the word 'release candidate' inflationary - otherwise you loose all effect.
For some reason I expected from a RC that some basic QA has been done before, not that it's the release where QA only starts to take action.

Did you know: SqueezePlayer will stream all your music to your Android device. Take your music everywhere!
Remote Control + Streaming to your iPad? Squeezebox + iPad = SqueezePad

TheMACServer is running Windows then? There have been reports that
scanning a Windows drive using its UNC path was considerably slower than
scanning the drive directly, even if the share was local.

    Yep, WHS 2003.

By the way, even with the photos directly accessed I still got my scan unexpectedly quit after 10hours only 25000 in to my 35000 photos. I am ready to give up now and move back to 7.6.1. Ithought I would give it a final go just with music (stopping the photo scan in file types) but it seems to have hung on the pre-caching artwork stage on the first file.

We did the minimum this time: only the package is renamed. All the files
etc. are still using the old name. Thus the existing configuration should
    survive.

    I'm using PlugPlayer.
