    Thanks! I will try that out in just two or three days when the first scan has finished.

    Hi got it installed it did not break my server, installing was not hard but predicting other consequences was, so i just tried it nothing broke afaik .

    it scanned ok.

    Social Music Discovery phase 1/2 (32185 of 32185) Complete 00:56:53

    Social Music Discovery phase 2/2 (2470 of 2470) Complete 00:33:51

    But launching the SMD webpage gets me a gray box in firefox and this error.

    [11-09-11 16:06:31.5295] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Server::__ANON__ (173) error GET http://localhost:9998/browse/library...set=0&size=50: 500 Internal Server Error

    Do I need suns own java plugin , is not the IceTea6 plugin provided by firefox good enough for launching java applets ?
    The test applet on sun works fine in my browser .

    Noted that the plugin does not install properly until you reboot the server, the restart from within SBS web-UI did not work

    THe SMD rich client prototype seems to run with ubuntu standard java install.

    It also imports data from the server ,nice it is doing it right now
    It takes a long time does it not share database with the plugin ?

    In SMD, everything relies on the same component: "the SMD Server".

    The SMD Server can be launched by different components (SqueezeBox Server, Yggdrasil the Rich RCP Client, etc).

    It's possible that both Squeezebox server and Rich Client launch different instances of SMD Server with different databases, but it shouldn't.

    I hope things will be clearer with this explanation.

    Summary for 954:
    localhost does work, local IP address and 127.0.0.1 don't work.

    The aforementioned critical problem (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpo...9&postcount=13) persists:

    Code:
    [11-09-11 16:45:23.6408] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Importer::_checkStatus (140) checking import status
    [11-09-11 16:45:23.6413] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Server::request (146) GET: http://localhost:9998/mediaimportmodules/squeezeboxserver
    [11-09-11 16:45:23.6585] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Importer::_handleStatus (217) Processing phase 1/2 and item 2678 of 40967
    [11-09-11 16:45:25.6720] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Importer::_checkStatus (140) checking import status
    [11-09-11 16:45:25.6726] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Server::request (146) GET: http://localhost:9998/mediaimportmodules/squeezeboxserver
    [11-09-11 16:45:25.6900] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Importer::_handleStatus (217) Processing phase 1/2 and item 2678 of 40967
    [11-09-11 16:45:27.7033] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Importer::_checkStatus (140) checking import status
    [11-09-11 16:45:27.7038] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Server::request (146) GET: http://localhost:9998/mediaimportmodules/squeezeboxserver
    [11-09-11 16:45:27.7210] Plugins::SocialMusicDiscovery::Importer::_handleStatus (217) Processing phase 1/2 and item 2678 of 40967
    and so on ...

    Shouldn't SMD catch database/Java exceptions, display an error message and stop the import? Right now it is checking the status again and again ...

    The internal server error comes when you try to use the "releases" menu .

    I assume this is "albums" but in in modernised form ,as an album can be anything nowadays a live show any bunch of files released together as a set .

    Hmm the desktop app is generating search relations.....

    The "entertainment" during this phase does not have a working progress bar, not possible to predict when the operations is finished

    Figured that Ubuntu has since a couple of years moved on to "OpenJDK."

    This is also Java 6 afiak ?

    Q: must it be sun java ? or would the OpenJDK that's standard in ubuntu nowadays do

    Great idea, but I'm obviously missing something (I've read the wiki). I've installed, scanned OK (phase 1 & 2) and all is there. I have SMD showing up in my "my music" library and also under extras. See this in WebGUI, SqueezePlay, iPengHD, and SqueezePad. So all seems fine. But I'm at a loss as to what it does for me.

    In my music, if I click on SMD, then artists, genre, etc., it shows me what is in my own library. If I click on an artist, it shows me their albums and a last.fm slide show (might have been there before, don't recall). but I get no "discovery" as far as I can tell.

    If I go to extras and SMD, then I get 3 options, one of which is browse library. If I open this, I get a java screen with a genre,artist,album listing (browser) along with a search box. But again, can't quite see what it does for me in terms of discovery.

    I'm sure I'm being dense here, but can someone give me a heads up on what sort of thing I might be able to play with here. Thanks. (And I think this is a great idea...although my only contribution can be as a "user" and later "$$ contribution"....

    edit: note, I'm using this on my 7.6.1 SbS setup.

    Look in the smd-server.log file in the SBS Log directory, I suspect it contains more details of the error.

    I think OpenJDK should work, I tried the SMD server with OpenJDK on a Sheevaplug some time ago and that worked but it used a lot of CPU, but I suspect the CPU usage was caused by the Sheevaplug CPU architecture so you might not get the same issues with a Intel/AMD CPU.
