Is SqueezePlay and Squeezeboxserver on the same machine ? Or is the server elsewhere ?

If on another computer than SBS this computer needs the same ports in it's fw opened just as you did with the server computer.

Yep, quite possibly. It was just one of the things I thought might have fixed the same problem for me. Not sure though.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I've tried different versions of SqueezePlay so I don't think it's a version issue.

I've tried disabling firewalls and even running the server on the same machine as SP. Same problem; still searching for a solution!

You say you have tried different versions of Squeezeplay. Am I missing something ? I thought there was only the one beta version of Squeezeplay the software player but ongoing versions of Squeezebox Server ?

I mean I've tried the one that came with 7.5 and the one that came with 7.6. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

    My experience..

I have SP 7.6.2 running here one a Win7 Ultimate x64 machine, and it's doing fine, and I even have Active Directory running here with logins, so I am NOT running as Admin while using SP. It's connecting to my Server which is in the same LAN, but is a different machine running Win2K8r2 x64 as my server, and I have run the 7.6, and now the 7.7 media server. I am sitting here at this very moment listening to music on my SP here at my Win7 machine, so I know it will work.

I wish I could offer some suggestions as to what is wrong, but I doubt it has anything to do with permissions, but the normal programs files directories are in general treated somewhat different. If you think it's an installed directory permissions issue, I'd suggest making say a "Programs" directory which I do for a few things, and then install in that directory and then you will have full permissions to write to as a normal user.

Also make sure you don't have anything blocked in the firewall if your connecting remotly, as that would kill you as well with making it work..

I already tried moving the installed files to a folder on my d-drive - to no avail.

    sqeezeplay not connecting

I've just got back from holiday to find exactly the same problem - squeezeplay searches for my libary and eventually reports that it can't connect. However, if I open the SBS web control and select a track, the open squeezeplay immediately sychronises and you can hear the track through the pc speakers - you just don't have any control with the squeezeplay interface.

It's very odd as the set up used to work just fine and I'm sat scratching my head too.

I've got the exact same problem. Running SBS and SP on one machine. I start Squeezeplay with Administrator permission. Squeezeplay can see the Server but connecting fails.
(System is Windows 7 Starter 32 Bit; sucessfully used the same setup with Windows 7 Pro 64Bit)

    Any ideas?
