    few beginner questions

    Hello,

I recently bought a Duet and installed 7.6…

    1. I couldn’t add a song (now playing) to an existing playlist. Then I removed 7.6 and installed 7.5.4 and plugin playlist manager 5.4. This way I can add a song currently played to an existing playlist. Is that normal that with the latest firmware this is not possible?
    2. What the difference with “dynamic playlists” – why use this? Because I installed it and song added to the playlists, where added to the “normal” playlist and not to the “dynamical”
    3. When waking up this morning the led was blinking blue on the receiver. Does it switch on automatically? Is it a “stand-by” state? I cannot switch off the receiver without using the controller, and so when playing with the controller, the wake on lan functionality switches n my PC. How a I sure that when on a week of vacation, my devices are not switched on all the time
    4. My SB server runs on Ubuntu 10.0.4. What access right does the music folder and playlist folder has to have. And what are the chmod commands to set them correct.
    5. How do i play songs randomly from 1 created playlsit?

7.6 allows you to add to playlists the same as previous versions. Press the "+" button when you have a track/album selected and you can add it "Next" or at the end of the list.

Dynamic Playlists are not lists of tracks, but all tracks that match certain conditions. For example all tracks with ***** rating. If you are playing such a list, does it make sense to add a *** track?

I'm not sure about a blinking blue light - it's not mentioned in my documentation. A blinking purple light is an "unrecoverable hardware error". I hope you don't have one of those.

Playing randomly is in the "Settings" entry on the "Home" page. I think it's at the top of the list. I don't know when the randomisation happens, i.e. when you turn on the setting, or when you play the playlist. It may not randomise a list that is already playing.

and you can choose here from existing playlists also or just current playlist?
You can't delete a track from an existing playlist and save it?

    1. Playlist manager plugin is not yet working in 7.6 it does allow you to add to other playlist than the current , the third party developer that designed this plugin is probably working on it rigth now (this is not provided by logitech ,sbs is open source so many plugins are designed by enthusiast wanting some functions not provided by logitech )
I Also want this functionality back.

    5. random play from a playlist is best done with the Dynamic playlist plugin.

or you could load the playlist and press shuffle, but SBS performance with very large playlist is not good at all, so if it works depends on the server performance.

Music folder has to readable by user squeezeboxserver or anyone.

Playlist folder also has to be writable by the squeezeboxserver user.

Note that sbs has it own user .

Are you using external drives ? if so mount them permanently in fstab to make life easier

Also, if you plan to use very large playlist go to settings page in the servers web-UI and increase the playlist size limit from 500 tracks to what ever you want. Cant remember exactly where the settings is but it's there so you should find it.

Blue ligth = connected to network but can not see a server (mysqueezebox.com or your local server )

Suggest that you investigate firewall settings in ubuntu .

Port 3483 udp and tcp Port 9000 tcp , shall be open.

Big playlist I say yours are small >1000's of tracks is considered big.

Some users do have playlist at 10000 tracks for historical reasons etc and want to use them.

What does you receivers LED do when the mp3 source is down? does it stay off or does it become blue after time?
Does receiver and controller have both an IP addresses? or only receiver or controller?

I presume by "mp3 source" you mean the SqueezeServer, which runs on your PC/Laptop.

If the server is down, or there is any network problem between the player and the receiver then the light turns blue. Incidentally, your controller signal strength icon will also turn blue.

This is singularly appropriate when I'm watching the TV and the receiver LED suddenly turns blue… it might mean that my PC has encountered a BSOD (Blue screen of death). Sometimes it's a reboot (so the blue goes away after about 5 minutes) and sometimes my wireless access point needs a prod.
