spotify is pretty much the only real subscription service in many EU countries .
In Sweden it was only Spotify untill Wimp started to compete .
Unless you count in piratebay
This may explain the popularity of spotify, UK people may have some more choices, but pandora and slacker is US only .
in the old slimdevices days it may have been an overwhelming majority of US users for these products,
But not now, it's a very international crowd.
spotify has sucessfully made thier service avaible in many countries, I think your poll shows that.

None; my library satisfy my urge to hear something specific, and radio channels like Radio Paradise provides the inspiration.
It is my understanding that if you setup that you "live in the US" to subscribe to a service then eg Spotify will hide some music from you due to rules emposed by the record companies?! eg you might be able to search and find some Danish records but they wont play...?!Main: Receiver (Audiocom) -> Beresford Caiman+ (Gatorized) -> Carver A-500x -> B&W 704

i have a last fm account, but i don't really use it. i have pandora on my tivo, but i don't really use that either. i don't pay for either.
i do occassionally play with free stuff, like shoutcast. between all my music and all the free stuff out there, i don't know why anyone pays.
what i WOULD pay for, is a service that examines what music i have, what ratings they have, and then plays me music i might like based on my current collection/ratings. kinda like tivo suggestions. but i wouldn't pay much.

I decided to give Rhapsody another try. It is much better than when I last tried it a few years ago. I tried Napster because it was cheaper, however I was really annoyed that a lot of music I would select only had 30 sec. samples available. I was pleasantly surprised that Rhapsody was the same price as Napster and included downoading to my iPod Touch as well as streaming to my squeezeboxes. So far, no annoying "30 sec. samples" or "track not available in the US", or just a track not being available.
If Rhapsody continues to work well, I will keep it and Spotify. If Spotify continues to have holes in their catalog in the US that don't exist in Rhapsody, I may drop Spotify. I'm willing to give it a go though.
Spotify really annoyed me recently. Through it, I had discovered OSI and Chroma Key. Last week, 2 out of the 3 OSI albums and all of Chroma Key's albums disappeared! Yet they continue to be available on Napster and Rhapsody. Ugh! I hope this doesn't become a regular occurance.Rich

I am UK based and use spotify.
I previously used LastFM heavily when it was free, mainly the my library and my recommendations stations but these obviously aren't available, I still scrobble as I like to look at the stats!
I also had a napster subscription but I found myself not using it as much as I should have done really.
I cancelled that and moved onto spotify, the main benefits for me over napster was
- New music - I trial most of my music on spotify before buying, I could have done this on napster though
- The playlists - creating, sharing and accessing other peoples playlists is great
- Mobile devices - Not SB related but I use spotify on ipod/HTC phone for on the go and listening in the car
- The software - found the software linking it all together to be excellent.
There are limitations, I don't like the playlists way of accessing your music, I preferred when you could browse by artists and also playlists which you had with Napster, I also find that some albums aren't available straight away such as the Arctic Monkeys and Wild Beasts album this year, Adele's 21 album still isn't on there - I guess this is a record label/band decision rather then spotify.
