However, I don't feel that much has been done with the feedback. Especially scanner problems/bugs have been present from day 1 in the 7.6.0 beta release, and haven't been addressed. Now, it's just released as an official release, with known scanner bugs, while many betatesters pointed out that there are many issues with scanning. (It looks like the Windows release is the most problematic one)

However, I hope Logitech is forced to solve them now, since 7.6 has been released as an official release.

As a plus, I like the faster scanning of 7.6 :-)

Agree. That bug with the playlist folder pointing to the same directory as the music folder is one I filed more than three months ago and on the day of the release somebody even wanted to close it. I guess its one of the things that cause scanner trouble and now it's finally getting some attention.

If there is a release candidate I'm willing to test that one 'in production' with my real library (and family).

Non release candidates only get installed in my testing environment with 100tracks so wouldn't be real testing.

    Reported the following bugs:

    http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17365
    http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17366

I have setup a test installation for 7.6 so it won't interferer with my normal setup.

SBS 7.6 Priority: Fix the scanning problems

    >> What scanning problems are remaining? Are they all recorded on open
    >> bugs?

I must say: no. I went through the list of recent bug edits, and there's
only a bunch of scanner related reports, some of which might even be
dupes... I guess I'll have to go through those endless threads myself...

Any chance that the slowdown situation could be due to database locking problems? Not timing out (which, from past experience, I believe is a fatal error) but just having to wait until they clear. Could long waits be logged at the debug level?

I will try to do an RC for 7.6.1, no ETA though. Please continue to file bugs and CC me on anything scanner or artwork related.

I'm still here, it is basically just Michael and myself now who still work on the server. Alan may help if we're lucky. Our QA staff has been completely gutted and there is now just 1 guy who also likely has to test other Logitech audio products. This awful situation may get better soon, but who knows, depends on how the winds of Logitech change.

Excellent, thanks for your continued in involvement during what I know to be very trying times.

If you have any comment on: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89140 , I'll see what I can discover.

I hope you boys are *looking around*. I don't see this project as having the volumes or projected growth necessary to remain viable, and the costs are probably too high (i.e. margins too low, and Mr. De Luca is a volumes guy). I'd like to see it thrive, for self-interest reasons of course, but would rather see you folks not jeopardize your careers. Best wishes in any case.

I'll ensure that any problems that I mentioned are retested in latest version and any still remaining I'll raise as bugs.

Is there some way we could create a troubleshoot guide which we ask all users to look through first ?
I'm getting a bit tired or repeating basic questions like, "do you have any errors in server.log" to everyone that posts in the forum without clearly describing the problem. Is it a good idea to have something like this ? Is anyone willing to start creating a wiki page or something similar for it ?
I finally got tired of repeating the same things over and over again, so I've created a wiki page with known problems and troubleshooting guidelines which we can refer people to, I announced it in the "Squeezebox Server" section here:
    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=645134

Please, let's together improve that wiki page to make it easier for users to solve their problem. Since I've now made an initial version I hope everyone else is willing to help improving it. So, anyone that feel the page contains incorrect, unnecessary or confusing information or think it's missing something, feel free update it on the wiki.

    Michael/Andy:
    - Not sure it it would be possible/suitable to make the above thread sticky or if we should just lift the thread now and then by posting to it ?
    - Would be suitable that I or someone from Logitech also post the wiki link in the support forum ?
    - Is there a better way than looking in the svn log to find out what has been solved in 7.6.1 ? There were quite a few svn log entries which didn't have any reference to bug reports at the moment when I looked in the svn log, due to this the bugzilla list of fixed 7.6.1 issue is a lot shorter than I believe it is in the reality. Of maybe the stuff not referencing a bug report is so small so they don't have to be mentioned to users with problems ?
