SBS 7.6 Priority: Fix the scanning problems
>Maybe you're not reading posts to the forums?
I've seen plenty of posts by you saying there's lots of outstanding issues, but what I was asking for was a list of outstanding bugs.
I'm not arguing that there aren't bugs - I'd just like to know what they are, so I don't end up raising the same issues myself.

That's not a scanning bug.

As a Logitech customer, i'm wondering how your development team is organised. Apparently, there is no seperate Quality Control group, which explains the huge number of bugs in released software.
To bring bugs into daylight, you mainly rely on your users/customers, instead of your own organisation.
There seems to be great opportunities for improvement in your organisation.

Do a separate playlist scan after youndo a " scan for new and changed " did this work.
there is a bug when you have file types exceptions for playlist in your music folder.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. Now I have 0 artist 0 songs and no playlists...My library contains 25 000 songs and more than a 1000 artists and 36 playlists. All my playlists, at 98%, are ALAC files except a few in AAC. I think I must wait the next update from Logitech. I just want to have a stable digital music player who can play my music. I have a touch, a boom and one classic. I was a Squeezebox fan, but since 7.5.5, I am less than happy from these products.

Just for information to everyone not reading all the posts in the other forum sections.
I currently get the feeling most non beta testers which have tried 7.6 and had some big problem with it are trying to revert back to 7.5.5 without further interest in spending time investigating and finding the cause of the issues. The good new is that some people seems to be happy with 7.6, at least that's what the following poll thread indicates:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89108
I guess reverting to 7.5.5 is a good idea for people who don't like to be beta testers but it also means that unless Logitech or the experienced beta testers spend a lot of time trying to find and investigate all possible issues there is a large risk a lot of them still will remain when 7.6.1 release. Releasing a 7.6.1 that still contains a lot of issues is obviously going to destroy any good reputation Logitech still have.
So questions to someone at Logitech:
1.
Is there some kind of extremely preliminary time frame/goal/indication when Logitech might try to release 7.6.1 ?
(are we talking end of summer as the previous preliminary indication for 7.6.0 or something much sooner)
2.
Would it be possible to have and announce a release candidate at least a few days before officially releasing 7.6.1 to at least make sure a bit few users try it before introducing it to people who don't want and never will participate in beta testing ?
3.
I guess I'm not going to get any answer on this but I'm still asking just in case, is it likely that Logitech will spend considerably amount of its own testing/QA resources on testing 7.6.1 or is it more likely that all testing will have to be done by the two Logitech developers involved together with the community ?
The reason I'm asking is because I think it's important that the beta testers in the community get some kind of indication how critical their involvement is. Releasing a 7.6.1 where a lot of critical issues still remains would obviously be a bad idea both for Logitech and the future of the Squeezebox products. I don't want the Squeezebox products to die because of this situation but I also don't want to spend a lot more of my spare time on testing if Logitech is going to take the responsibility to do the work themselves.
And some questions to all the community members:
1.
Is there some way we could create a FAQ of frequently known issues and solutions to make it easier to point users with problems to this ? Is it a good idea to have something like this ? Is anyone willing to start creating a wiki page or something similar for it ?
2.
Is there some way we could create a troubleshoot guide which we ask all users to look through first ?
I'm getting a bit tired or repeating basic questions like, "do you have any errors in server.log" to everyone that posts in the forum without clearly describing the problem. Is it a good idea to have something like this ? Is anyone willing to start creating a wiki page or something similar for it ?Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

No.

That's a good suggestion. Don't know why we never did this for 7.6.0.

As you might have read in the news, there's a new wave of changes coming
up to us... Can't speak for the future. But right now most of the little
QA we have is concentrating on LMS. Sure, 7.6.0 issues should be addressed
there too. But there are bugs which probably won't be fixed in 7.6.x, as
the related code has been changed for LMS quite a bit (eg. importers like
MusicIP aren't run in a simple rescan).

For us developers it's very important. We get much more and better
feedback from you than from the "official" testers.

Ok, thanks for the information, it feels like we should interpret this as you want our help if we would like Logitech to release a reasonable stable 7.6.1 in the near future.
Everyone else, we all want a stable 7.6.1 release so everyone can go back and enjoy their streaming music instead of spending the time trying to comment rants/complains and refer people to Logitech support, so anyone willing to help, please spend some time trying to reproduce problems reported by users and make sure there are bugs registered for all the different problems users seems to have.
And anyone that just want to complain/rant on the whole situation without having any constructive ideas how we can help solving it, please use the official support forum at http://forums.logitech.com instead of this thread/forum.Erland Isaksson (My homepage)
