So it's not suppressing artists that appear on songs in album context for me at all.

And if I browse to a compilation album that also has an album artist tag, I also still get all track artists displayed in album context:

Artist: Nicolette, Alanïa, Download, Illumination, Front Line Assembly, Motion Control, Mind Over Midi, James

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what the change was supposed to be doing?

Probably because they don't have 'track artist' roles, but I couldn't say for sure. I need to do more testing.

If this is a compilation, how is that these contributors have 'artist' roles rather than 'track artist'?

You should add a comment to the bug report. It's best if you can contrast it with 7.5's behavior.

However, because there is also a Compilation=1 tag, you get artists, not track artists. i.e. the Compilation tag is processed and treated before the presence of an Album Artist tag.

I thought the bug was resolved. Unlikely to be looked at again.

If you have an album artist tag you get track artists.

However, because there is also a Compilation=1 tag, you get artists, not track artists. i.e. the Compilation tag is processed and treated before the presence of an Album Artist tag.

I don't have any ALBUMARTIST tags in my compilations and I do use COMPILATION=1. I see what is shown below.

Most of my compilations don't have album artist tags. I only have a few tribute/remix albums that I have labelled with the album artist being the original artist, so they appear under that artist as well as under Various Artists (compilations).

I can't see any albums that look like your screenshot. Is there an optional setting to include artist name after song titles? i.e. I know there's one for showing artist name with albums.

Perhaps for some reason I haven't got the latest code changes? I have updated to latest SVN 7.6/trunk, reported as 7.6.0. SVN revision 32921.

wow, what a MESS.

this is why you should have one DB field for one tag, and thats it. and comp tags shouldn't be this impactful. all they should do is classify or further clarify comp status to SBS, but the two roles in the DB for AA and TA should not be impacted by them.

this has been coming to a head for a long time now.
