OK, it HAS to do with characters. I removed all german "umlaute" like äöüß and that was enough, to make the comment visible.

BUT: The following comment from a Miles Davis Album also doesn't show up and it is englisch language. Any ideas?
    Code:
This painterly masterpiece is one of the most important, influential and popular albums in jazz. At the time it was made, Kind of Blue was also a revolution all its own. Turning his back on standard chord progressions, trumpeter Miles Davis used modal scales as a starting point for composition and improvisation — breaking new ground with warmth, subtlety and understatement in the thick of hard bop. Davis and his peerless band — bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Jimmy Cobb, pianist Bill Evans and the titanic sax team of John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley — soloed in uncluttered settings, typified by "melodic rather than harmonic variation," as Davis put it. Two numbers, "All Blues" and "Freddie Freeloader" (the latter featured Wynton Kelly at the ivories in place of Evans), were in twelve-bar form, but Davis' approach allowed his players a cool, new, collected freedom. Evans wrote in his original liner notes, "Miles conceived these settings only hours before the recording dates and arrived with sketches which indicated to the group what was to be played. Therefore, you will hear something close to pure spontaneity in these performances." Or as the late critic Robert Palmer wrote, "Kind of Blue is, in a sense, all melody — and atmosphere." The bass line in "So What" is now among the most familiar obbligatos in jazz, and there is no finer evocation of the late-night wonder of jazz than the muted horns in "All Blues."

I wonder if this is a UTF8 vs UTF16 issue.

    BINGO, i substituted this character
    Code:
with a normal -, and now the comment shows up!

    Conclusion:
The parsing routine is character- and symbol-sensitive. Somebody with deeper knowledge of SC than mine has to clearly state, which characters are allowed and which not - or he/she has do rewrite the parsing engine!

You should file a bug report on this if one does not already exist.

It's a bug. Squeezebox Server has always had large problems with character sets, many of which haven't been completely fixed. I think it would be fruitless trying to figure out which characters or which circumstances lead to a problem with the COMMENT field, which is unimportant operationally. Just report the bug and hope it gets fixed some day.

IMHO it's not unimportant. Users usually trust their media server to serve their individual valuable comments to music (which are of course stored in the comments tag/field). And in this case nobody can trust in SC. And this is important! Full stop.

Not a 'dev', but I already had a rough patch already in the works for something like this I have encountered.

After cleaning up a bit I have attached to the bug report. Perhaps might work for some.

    Edit:

The patch can only be effective on systems running Perl version 5.8.7 or later.

that is excellent and very good of you, patches are always welcome and logitech's squeezebox division is very understaffed , you just made the bug 10 times more likely to be fixed kudos
