I have noticed lately that SC (7.5.1) is not recognizing the comments I add to tags in new albums. I am not sure if this is a size restriction or what the issue is. I generally get reviews from sources like CD Universe, Rolling Stone, Amazon to add to the comments section of the tags. In a number of cases no comments are found in SC even though there is one in the tag. I am using TagScanner 5.1 under Wine with a Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit OS

Yes if I click on view tags it shows a comment section but only displays the number of bytes the the comment occupies not the actual comment.
Sometimes for some mysterious reason if I change the comment entry the comment will then display. I don't think I am making particularly large comments but is there a maximum size beyond which it will not display on the SC server ?Last edited by SlimChances; 2011-07-27 at 19:31.

Do you have the time to test to:
1. Put the file in a separate directory
2. Point the "Music Folder" to this directory
3. Perform a rescan and see if the comment tag is scanned
4. Repeat the process with a file where the comment tag works already today and see if it's scanned.
If the comment tag is scanned for one of the files but not for the other file, please register a bug report at http://bugs.slimdevices.com and attach the problematic file with the bug report. Describe in the bug report that the comments seems to be shown in the "View Tags" link.
The View Tags function only displays values shorter than 256 characters, so COMMENT tags longer than 256 characters will just be displayed as "(5426 Bytes)".
I wonder if there is something similar in the scanner, does the scanning problem only occur for comments longer than a certain amount of characters ?Erland Isaksson (My homepage)

I have updated my tag scanner software perhaps there will be an improvement. I am hesitant to change the directory SC scans as I have a big library and it will take a long time to rescan my library afterwards. I will leave this for another time when the issue comes up again, but I greatly appreciate your help.

I looked at some of the files I had difficulty with and they were all well over 15 MB as they are FLAC. I find if I enter comments a second or third time with different reviews it usually works OK so I think I will leave the matter at that

OT, but you really should give puddletag a spin. One of the features you may find handy is that you can insert a tag directly from the clipboard.

Linux finally gets a great audio tagger: puddletag - now packaged in most Linux distributions.

Thanks for your replies,

I have tried Puddletag but find Tagscanner much easier to use perhaps because I have used it for years under windows. Seems to have more fields to work with and is faster to set up.

I had a look at the "tags" that are currently in use on my system and they appear to be Vorbis and "Kind" is FLAC
I don't think I ever had this problem before as I have used the program for years but it asked for an update a week or two ago so something has changed in the settings .
