if Phil and I agree, it usually is b/c its true.
in any case, does anyone know of a specific, citable reason[s] why 7.6 couldn't be released today, or say, wed next week?
i mean honestly, this thing's been baking longer than the Sahara. why not put it out now so you don't bake any bad stuff into LMS? there's certainly enough new stuff to put thru its paces as is.

Because the one full-time developer on the project is currently working on LMS. I figure we may as well help him out rather than twiddle our thumbs. The sooner he gets all the silly multi-media junk done for LMS, the sooner he can get back to working on 7.6 bugs and regressions. And LMS is so closely based on 7.6 that any non-media server bugs found can in all likelihood be backported to 7.6.
And if LMS becomes the next release of SBS, no big deal (it's not like we haven't seen several bad renaming jobs for Slim Device's server), just as long as all the kinks are worked out surrounding the new functionality. It'll just be released a few months later.

> It seems quite significantly different. Could argue that 7.6 should really be 8.0 (some significant changes), and LMS is effectively a new product (that's going to have a lot of incompatibilities?), that it should be LMS v1.0.
What incompatibilities are you afraid off? Right now the audio part is almost identical to 7.6 (scanning, db management, playback etc.)

I don't really know - I haven't been following the LMS thread, as I'm not particularly interested in pictures/video streaming. I was assuming that there would be radical changes to UI, scanner, etc.
- Multi directories for the scanner, which is going to affect other plugins that currently look for a single param, and must be a significant change to the scanner.
- DB Schema changes to store all the new stuff.

Oh, please.
We've always chastise SD/Logitech for not implementing this earlier because it's so simple. Just loop over each of the defined directories.
From what I've seen of the DB schema, all of the new functionality has been confined to the new 'images' and 'videos' tables. Nothing in the audio schema has changed.- DB Schema changes to store all the new stuff.

I'm not complaining! I think it's wonderful that a new product now has multi directory support.
I'm simply saying that this, plus a new name change, support for other media content, etc, warrants at least a major version number change, not just a point release.
If this doesn't warrant a major version number change, then what sort change would?!!! How much change has there been between 7.0 and 7.7?

Why hasn't the 7.5 trunk been bumped to 7.5.6 version?
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.5
I don' think people should be encouraged to install 7.6 beta just to fix the scanner problems. SBS 7.6 is far from ready to be used by the typical SB user.
