Seeing only new development work being done in the LMS branch, and myriad problems that still exist in 7.6, I'm not encouraged. Additionally, no progress being made (nor, apparently, any interest in fixing) the 7.5 scanner crashing bugs.
It's looking like SBS 7.6 is being shelved.

Is it still planned to release SBS 7.6?

Agreed, it would be nice to get some kind of unofficial indication about the plans regarding 7.6 and LMS, at least which quarter/month the current preliminary plan indicates. If it can't be posted to the public, I'm fine with just getting a e-mail/PM with it so I at least can use it for my own planning regarding plugin development.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the apparent apathy to scanner problems ?
However, in defence of the developers, they work for Logitech and in the absence of publicly available development roadmaps we do not know what management has set as their priorities, though it is fairly obvious that LMS is in and the older SB3 and Boom are out.A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee.

That's why we ask.
LMS at the moment is closely based on 7.6, so that may mean that plugin developers working with 7.6 won't be derailed too badly. It would be nice to give them something to go on, though.
I'm running LMS at the moment, streaming to a Touch. It still works, but I imagine it's very unstable. Scanning of music files was broken a couple weeks ago when I last checked.
Looks like a 7.5.5 release may now be planned, but there's no real indication that the scanning problems will be fixed. That would be yet another black eye for Squeezebox if people upgrade again only to have the scanner crashing as with the current version.

I completely agree. There's no use in reporting bugs and testing 7.6 anymore if there won't be further development anymore. Would be important to know.
By the way, silly question:
What is LMS? A new software by Logitech? Where can I find this?

Logitech Media Server. The latest and greatest name for SlimServer/SqueezeCenter/Squeezebox Server. I guess it will scan and server photos and videos in addition to music.

It can be checked out from the SVN server at

I agree too.
If 7.6 is not going to be released, beta testers should be informed.
I also add that a beta version of LMS with binary install should be made available as soon as possible (of course at least on Windows, that should be so obvious, but one never knows ... someone could find funny to release it only on linux ...)
7.5.3 and 7.5.4 are complete failures as far as normal users expectations are concerned, and severe regressions regarding 7.5.2
7.6 seems to go (slowly ...) in the right direction, but if it is abandonned ...
LMS should be available for beta testers as soon as possible, so we can detect soon enough geek's funny things like those autorescans you cannot disable (especially in TinySBS).
Others music software libraries are improving.
If softwares for Squeezebox products do not pay more attention to normal use, don't look at what is obviously appreciated in others popular music softwares, and go on disabling simple things necessary for reliable and normal use, I don't think the squeezebox product line will survive.
You will have Free Software, Open Source development, and a great LMS software, most people won't use.
But I guess nobody is going to settle up Free Hardware, and Open Hardware Design, to build Squeezebox Touch products available for free in order to use with wonderful geeky LMS.Last edited by nicolas75; 2011-07-12 at 11:35.

Just a quick reply to the main question: yes, we're still planning to release 7.6. Please test it as thoroughly as possible. We need all your help to get this as stable as possible. We do not ignore your bug reports, though priorities currently are a bit off track :-/.

Thanks, that's good to know.
If you can give us some kind of indication when you personally (or Logitech) believes a music server release based on 7.6 could be ready, that would be great information. We will just interpret it as very preliminary information and something that can and probably is going to change, but it would be good to know if you are currently working towards August, 2011-Q3, 2011-Q4 or 2012. Main reason being that if you are targeting August my priorities looks a lot different than if you are targeting 2012.Erland Isaksson (My homepage)
