Hello,
I'm checking out the SlimServer (it's cool!) and am thinking about geting
a player, too, but have a question: Right now, when I connect with WinAmp
(or Windows Media Player), I have to go the the server and manually start
the stream for that particular computer. Will it be the same for when I
have a Slim Player set up? Or did I just miss something in the
configuration?
Thanks,
Mike

The server has two connections that it uses with its players. One for audio,
and one for control. Winamp is able to grab the audio stream, but does not
have a way to handle the control channel. Thus, you can listen to music but
all control must be done from the browser window, and volume control is on
winamp alone.
Softsqueeze, Squeezebox and the older Slimp3 all use the control channel so the
remote control will handle all functions with or without a browser window.
