radio shuts down when turned up to loud volume

I've been noticing recently that if i have the volume on my squeezebox radios (two of them, same problem) turned up in the lower 90s or higher while playing any stream (radio, rhapsody, my own music, etc), it will eventually shut itself down and start an infinite reboot loop. If i can manage to turn the volume down before it crashes again, it will remain playing just fine. Has anyone else seen this happen before? Is this maybe the result of some sort of shutdown to protect the speakers? Definitely seems to correlate with volume level though. Normally I wouldn't need to play my music this loud, but I wanted to hear my music outside with the windows open, now that summer is here.

    Cool

Yes! I've been having the exact same problem. We were all dancing in the kitchen (as mentioned, summertime...) and wanted to boost it all the way up. Suddenly the unit started rebooting until we managed to turn the volume down. I don't see this as something implemented to protect the speaker since the sound is actually really good at max volume (for about ten seconds, that is...).

Hope this is something they're working on!

    Its the power supply

    Hi.
that sounds very much like your power supplies do not deliver the power they should.

I had a broken power supply for a while and used some other one that had the same voltage but only about 3/4 the amps. The radio did the same just after 60% volume. When the new power supply arrived it was all fine again.

    Regards.

Interesting theory about the power supply... i may have to look into that. this seems to have all of a sudden started doing this (pretty sure I had successfully run it at that loud of volume last summer). To see if it was that specific radio, I had put the other Radio that I have in my house in place of that one, and it still did it. The funny thing about that is that I just plugged the same power supply that was already there into it. This weekend, I will try switching power supplies around and see if the problem moves with the power supply or not...

    Reproducable

I have had some reboots as well. I haven't really paid attention to it untill now.

But tonight I have done some testing.

I cannot reproduce the problem when running on batteries.
I can reliably reproduce the error on two sepparate Radios with either powersupply.
I see strong indications that the problem occurs when playing music that is heavy on the bass. At 100% volume the track "Zion" by DJ Hoax will cause a crash within half a second during the real deep passages and after a while as low as 90% volume. I don't dare to play this track at 100% vol on battery for too long as I think there is distortion. Though it is hard to hear due to the track's sound.

I'm 100% sure this error has been introduced within the last year, and most likely with the latest firmware update.

I am going to log this error in Bugzilla now.

    Allready reported

I found the error in Buzilla: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15729

Priority one, targeted for 7.6. (Usually meaning 7.6 wont be released before this is fixed).

wow - you are allowed to put the radio to 100% volume
My wife would kill me ...
Did you know: SqueezePlayer will stream all your music to your Android device. Take your music everywhere!
Remote Control + Streaming to your iPad? Squeezebox + iPad = SqueezePad

Heheh... Wife at work, kids asleep upstairs.
Actually I had to postpone the testing because my daughter came down, complaining that she could hear the music. After she fell asleep I went for it. Both radios sync'ed, playing at 100% in the kitcehn. Nice :-)
