Windows 7 Firewall blocking SBS (7.5.4)

    Hi guys,

This is a bizare one, I have been using my SB3 with SBS/Slimserver for ages, and with Windows 7 for ages. Then for some reason the other day I came to use my SB3 and it wont connect to the server.

So uninstalled and re-insatlled SBS and still no joy. Then I wondered about firewalls so disabled Windows 7 firewall and the SB3 instantly connects to the server.

The only thing is Windows 7 firewall is, and has always been setup to ALLOW SBS to accept incoming connections.

Any idea what's going on? I really don't want to leave the firewall down to use my SB3.

PS: in advanced firewall settings, Squeezebox Server is set to "Allow Squeezebox Server to accept inbound connections." which was done by default at install.

I have had no problems with my setup of the SB3 for a long time and now this. All I want to do is play my music downstairs.

    Thanks in advance.

Seem to have found a fix here:

No idea why I should be having to manually add ports but hohum....

Thanks to the OP for the fix.

Had same problem with same constellation. Manually defining firewall rules solved it. Dunno why this occured.
    Reinstalled 7.5.4, still working.

    Just for the record, mine went bad this morning Version: 7.5.4 - r32171 @ Thu Apr 14 09:19:34 PDT 2011, Windows 7 x64 SP1 and Avast 6

As I'd just upgraded Avast, that was my first thing to switch off. Didn't work. Switching firewall off did, so then hit google for answer and ended up here

Set the rules as linked above and all works fine

I was having the same problem and no amount of tinkering with Windows 7 Firewall fixed it. The link above didn't make any sense to me......(i.e. I would need a step by step list of explicit rules to follow)

So after much shouting and generally kicking the cats around the house I disabled Windows Firewall and am using Zone Alarm till such times as Logitech or Windoze sort themselves out.

It my PC has suddenly manifested exactly the same problem and turning Windows firewall off resolves it immediately.

Can someone please give some more explanation to the solution advised in the link above. I have tried to creat a rule in the Windows firewall but they seem to be specific to either a program or a port.

I cannot find how to associate a specific port to a specific program !

    Thank you.

Ok, I realised that I had to create the new inbound rules as "custom" and all was then quite straight forward.

I now have the Windows firewall turned back on and SBS running as normal. Excellent :-)

I should add that I already had SBS 7.5.4 installed and didn't need to revert back to an earlier version in order to get this fix to work.

I just added the two new rules into the Windows firewall and hey presto !

To get to the advanced firewall settings hit the start button and type "firewall" (no quotes) in the "Search programs and files" box. This should start the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. In the left hand pane select Inbound Rules and in the middle pane scroll down to the Squeezebox Server Rules. I then deleted all the Squeezebox Server rules except for 2 of them. Then double click one of the rules, select the Programs and Services tab and set for All programs... (see attached screen snip). Then select the Protocols and Ports tab and select TCP for the Protocol type. In the Local Port box list "3483, 9000, 9090" and set Remote port to All Ports. On the Scope tab I set both Local and Remote address to Any IP. On the Advanced tab I checked Domain, Private and Public and on the Interface types I set to All interface types. That's it for the TCP rule so you can apply and OK. For the other rule on the Programs and Services tab I did set it to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Squeezebox\server\SqueezeSvr.exe" and on the Protocols and Ports set the Protocol type to UDP and everything else the same as I stated for the TCP rule.

    Thanks for the info w3wilkes.

I did it another way by creating two new custom rules which I called SqueezboxUDP and AllProgramsTCP. This probably wasn't the correct way of going about it but it works fine.

My Inbound Rules can be seen below. What are all the disabled entries with profile "Domain" ? Can they be deleted. Are there any other Squeezebox entries I could also delete ?

I've found that if it's a Squeezebox rule and it's disabled it can be deleted with no trouble. Your display is the only place I've ever seen the Squeezebox Control panel or Squeezebox scanner rules (I don't have either). I do have the server service helper. I really think that all that's needed are the 2 inbound rules, the one for TCP and the other for UDP as stated above in this thread.
